I've noticed that whenever a hit movie becomes popular a Broadway musical version follows years later and I can't figure it out? Is it because some movies do better as Broadway Musicals? Because I noticed that Legally Blonde was made into a Broadway Musical and was a hit for a long time then the same thing with The Adventures Of Priscilla Queen Of The Desert and it performed poorly and then Billy Elliott was also made into a Broadway show as well and it seems to me that these shows are better than the actual movies they are based on. And now they did the same thing to the movie Waitress too and I think why can't they do Broadway Musicals of family oriented movies rather than these movies aimed at the older generation and adults? Why I think these Broadway Musicals based on movies became a huge trend and they have somehow gained popularity more than Broadway shows like Cats and Mamma Mia because this is what the current generation likes

Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, a 1954 movie, came to Broadway in 1982. So that's one that became a Broadway musical 40 years ago.
