I don't know if there is a worse case than Brian Major. The guy from the Blind River killings who showed up at the rest stop at the WRONG time when the culprit had already killed Jackie McAllister and had badly wounded Gord. Maybe he just needed a rest and was going to sleep for a little bit. I understand the rest stop was hidden a bit behind some evergreen trees from the road, so I doubt he saw something and then decided to investigate. I think he just picked the wrong rest stop at precisely the wrong time. Always felt sorry for his wife and toddler son that weren't shown on the show.

Lauria Bible comes to mind as well. Wrong friend's house to have a sleepover with. I am sure the Bible family has been kept up nights knowing that if she was just home that night she'd be alive and well. Not that you can possibly predict this.

Brian didn't have a chance, I don't think. This guy was ruthless who killed him. Lauria likely didn't have much of a fighting chance either. Who knows, she may have tried to escape when she was being held over the next few days.

Pamela June Ray. For the most part Panama City Beach was a safe place, as was the Wilhite. Unfortunately she happened to be there the same time as a predator.

This rank the victims is getting weird.

Kari Lynn Nixon. Small town in upstate New York in 1987 the odds of her crossing paths with a creep like Robert Jones had to be astronomical. She had gotten to that store ten minutes earlier or ten minutes later he likely never spots her and she would be alive today.

Going a different route on this.

I would say Charles Holden but he never did any jail time (thank goodness). I will say Tony Miller. If he hadn't been in the restaurant earlier, he probably would not have been arrested/convicted. Johnny Lee Wilson wasn't necessarily wrong place/wrong time. He was pursued by police after Gary Wall's nonsense and lazy investigation.

"Dave" the coworker of Annette Schappacher Burnside definitely comes to mind. He just went to lunch with her probabally not knowing how dangerous her husband was.
She was not the sharpest knife in the drawer and I would be surprised if she had the sense to mention to those around her that he was as bad as he was.

There’s so many. Just a few: Colleen Reed. Angela Hammond. The pregnant lady in the Northeast who stopped for a soda. Ron Goldman. The people at the Las Cruces Bowling Alley.

I guess if we think about the Wendy Camp episode then Cynthia Britto and Lisa Kregear come to mind. They weren't targets, they were just witnessed if they survived. So for that reason alone they got killed.

I guess it depends on the true motive of the killer, but we could say Dick Hansen was in the wrong place at the wrong time if he wasn't the target.

Agree on Kari Lynn Nixon. Her poor family must be haunted over knowing had she left 5 minutes earlier or 5 minutes later for the corner store, she could very well be alive today.

Also, “Carol” being shot in the face in her car must be haunted over the fact that had she not been running 30 minutes late that morning, she may have avoided the shooter altogether. Fortunately she survived and has gone on to live a happy life. But the memory of that day probably never leaves.
