Shortly after the ABC sitcom wrapped its freshman run, TVLine reported that come Season 2, eldest Baxter daughter Kristin would look a bit different. Amanda Fuller, fresh off a "Grey’s Anatomy" arc, wound up with the role.

But if you thought that recast was jarring…

When Fox revived the castoff ABC sitcom, fans couldn’t stop talking — and to this day still do! — about the new Mandy, given that the middle Baxter child went from being a 5-foot-1 brunette to a 5-foot-10 blonde.

EP Matt Berry explained at the time that original cast member Molly Ephraim was busy with “different things” and would not partake in the revival, so Molly McCook was brought in as a recast.

To this day, I still don't know what was considered wrong with the original girl who gave us Kristyn. I never had a problem with her.

God bless you and her and the three other actresses always!!!

Anger Management problem.Hogwash. Alexandra Krosney disagreed with Tim Allen wanting to make the show more political. I agree with her. Home Improvement never resorted to constant politics and was a great show. While never on the level of Home Improvement, season 1 of Last Man Standing was the closest in quality.

10 TV Shows Ruined By A Character's Recast (https://www.cbr.com/recast-ruined-tv-shows/)

There was an irregularly high amount of character recasts throughout Tim Allen's sitcom Last Man Standing. However, the most unfortunate recast occurred following the cancelation on ABC and the revival on Fox. Molly Ephraim played Mandy, the entertaining and eccentric middle child of the show up to the cancelation.

When Last Man Standing was rebooted, Ephraim was replaced by actress Molly McCook. As a fan-favorite character, the audience was disappointed by the cast change. Not only did the two women have significant physique differences, but many felt McCook wasn't able to capture the character as well as her predecessor.

Molly McCook was one of the most baffling recasting decisions I’ve ever seen. She didn’t look or sound anything like Molly Ephraim, she couldn’t act in the slightest, she had the comedic timing of a sloth and she always came off way more mean than just conceited. Like Mandy had her mean moments, but she got fewer of those as the seasons went on and she mellowed and matured, Her second actress made her come off like she was nasty all the time. It’s like the only reason they hired her is because they were both named Molly.

Kristen’s recast worked a lot better. Sure, they didn’t look or act all that similar, but that was the point. They wanted to make her more mature and a bit older. Plus, it was early enough in the series to not be that much of a bother. With Mandy, it didn’t work at all. They should have just written her character out if Molly Ephraim couldn’t be there/was let go for whatever reason.
