My favorite decades of TV ranked from most favorite to least favorite

7) 1950's - Having been born in the mid-1970's, I just can't relate to the family sitcoms of this decade.

My favorites started in the 50’s & went into the 60’s. 60’s that went into the 70’s. I grew up in the 80’s & 90’s. For me a lot of it was NICKELODEON during the day and NICK at NITE.

I went with the 60's. I was a kid then and TV was mom's favorite baby sitter for me. I remember watching The Munsters, Batman, and the Flintstones. Mom liked Jeopardy and Dad liked Laugh-in. And when the sitter came over it was McHale’s Navy that was on the TV.

As I got older the escapist part of TV sitcoms helped me navigate stressful situations. Perhaps a form of Mindfulness since I was completely focused on the shows.

I do like TV from the '50's and 70's as well.

Unlike Reinhold I can appreciate some 1950s programs, although I was pretty young then and did not see the originals. I do like the later Lucy episodes but for me the first season or two are losers. Father Knows Best is mostly a well-written show that somewhat stands up, although you can occasionally see/hear reminders of how the society has changed.

I'd go along with 24/7 and vote for the 1960s. There are a lot of good sitcoms, and the decade saw the morph to full color.

The 60s shows never age.

Definitely the 60s. Much more creative situations then. By the 70s and beyond, a lot of sitcoms transitioned to the "Learcom" formula featuring people at home arguing.

The 1970s. Though it is hard for me to pick between the 1960s and 70s because those are the two top decades for sitcoms and television in general in my opinion. Not to mention music. As far as television in general goes, I would rank from top( best) to bottom: The 1970s and 60s, really equally great. Then the 1950s, 80s and 90s in that order. 21st century, not even worth ranking, absolutely unwatchable to me.

Wow, that takes me back. Actually commercials worth watching. Some on commented that there would be tremendous crossover episode possibilities.

Too bad advertising has returned to being stale again. The commercials starting in the '60's started a trend of entertaining watch worthy ads.

Those are actually viewable ads where i wouldn't be reaching for the mute button. Now they're all dreck.

I picked 70s but I love 50s-70s :)

1950s: watched only a few eps of Lucy, it was really good but definetely not seen enough- -/5
1960s: watched only a few seasons of Bewitched. Liked it quite a lot, but still not enough show seen to have a comprehension of the decade -/5
1970s: I don't like this decade very much. Mary Tyler Moore and Three's Company were comedy gold, but I was disappointed by other shows such as All in the Family, Sanford & Son, The Jefferson. I dislike the decade also, so I guess that's a matter of personal taste.2,5/5
1980s: awesome decade, many beautiful sitcom; and being born in 1984 I consider this era to be the classic one 4,5/5
1990s: this is my golden age instead; most of my favorite sitcoms are from the 90s 5/5
2000s: awful era, didn't love any show from this chunk. Occasionally I watched and liked According to Jim, but it's far from my favorites 1/5
2010s: not so bad after all: I enjoyed Melissa & Joey, The Goldbergs. Roseanne came back with the rest of The Conners, and Mom is #3 show ever for me! 4/5

1st- 1960s- As just sitcoms go, this easily wins. No other decade has over a dozen sitcoms that are top notch.
2nd- 1990s- So many great sitcoms like Frasier, Wings, Home Improvement, Coach, Seinfeld, Boy Meets World, Murphy Brown, and Mad About You. What a shame mediocre Friends was more popular than most of them.
a close 3rd- 1980s- Family Ties, Newhart, The Facts of Life, Diff'rent Strokes before Sam/Maggie, Mr. Belvedere, Punky Brewster, and Howard Hesseman era of Head of the Class were all excellent. Cheers was good, but not on the level of its spin-off.
1970s- a distant 4th after the others as I don't care for most Norman Lear shows and Three's Company. But it did have some gems like WKRP, Barney Miller, M*A*S*H, Mary Tyler Moore, Happy Days, and great Britcoms Fawlty Towers and Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em.
5th- 1950s- I Love Lucy, Bachelor Father, and The Jack Benny Program are great. But overall I haven't seen a lot of this decade compared to the 60s.
6th- 2000s- Only great long-running sitcom from this decade is Corner Gas. I will always like Hope and Faith and George Lopez is good, but not on the level of the 20th century classics. And major points taken away for The Office coming and making horrible mockumentaries popular.
7th- 2010s- The Middle is great, on par with many of the 20th century classics. But a whole lot of 2010s sitcoms sucked, and I resented The Middle living in far inferior Modern Family's shadow, both first-run and now that The Middle has disappeared from syndication.
8th- 2020s are not halfway through yet, but I doubt anything great like The Middle comes in this era of raunchy TV-MA smut from streamers being celebrated. Young Sheldon, The Neighborhood, and Ghosts are best of the bunch, and Young Sheldon is past its prime now.
9th- 1940s. I doubt anyone has thought of this decade but sitcoms did start out here. I have never seen any of them, most were probably destroyed before Lucille Ball invented the rerun and there wasn't much to start with.
