I never knew that Family matters was a spinoff rom perfect strangers because carl and harriet never mentioned larry or balki-and larry and balki never appeared on family matters-so in my opinion the shows crossed over-not a spinoff

After they left the Ritz Discount store, they worked at the Chicago Chronicle, where Harriette Winslow worked the elevator. In fact, one episode even had Carl Winslow!

Usually when a spinoff show starts, it refers back to the show it came from but in this case you never hear carl or harriet say during the first season "I wonder what Larry and Balki are doing" I think i statement like that would have made family matters a true spinoff from the show Perfect Strangers

I don't think any "Family Matters" episodes made references to "Perfect Strangers." They did mention the Chicago Chronicle a few times though.
Harriette was a regular on "Perfect Strangers," I guess they wanted to do a spinoff of her after that guest appearance by Reginald VelJohnson.
