View Full Version : The episode of Edith's death TVFactFan 08-18-2002, 12:07 AM For anyone who saw the live airing of this episode i wanted to know how shocking was it? I don't think characters should be killed off of sitcoms. Sitcoms are supposed to be entertaining ThomasE 09-17-2002, 07:42 PM Well there was really nothing else that could be done. Carroll O'Connor stated that it was getting to be too much trying to write around her absence: Edith went to work early. Edith will be at the party a little later after work. Edith's at home. I think one of the producers cried while talking to Jean Stapleton when it was announced that her character would die. Jean: It is only a fictional character. Producer: Not to me she isn't It was very sad. That was kind of a depressing episode. That is the main reason why i never plan to watch that episode Brian Damage 09-17-2002, 09:55 PM It is a depressing episode especially after Archie holds one of Edith's slippers and begins to cry. However, it was very well written and acted by everyone and worth a look. I think Archie said " Edith you had no right to leave me this way"_did archie say that? I think Archie said " Edith you had no right to leave me this way"_did archie say that? I think he said that. Then he said something like "I was supposed to go first." That wasn't the exact quote, but kind of close. I can't wait to see the episodes. I can cry my eyes out over it. TVFactFan 09-18-2002, 06:07 AM Originally posted by Jenny I think he said that. Well I never plan to cry when i'm looking at a comedy. Which means i will skip that episode. What if you want to see it a few years from now, but it doesn't show on tvland anymore? You'd have to go out and buy it somewhere, if you can even find it. Thast's what i was saying, that i found out that the Edith's Death Episode is no longer in syndication-So that why i figured TV LAND would not buy it. I really don't think it's something to buy Dan Asnis 09-19-2002, 02:41 AM You are confused “Archie Alone” is still in syndication with Archie Bunker’s Place and was not being aired only because Archie Bunker’s Place was not being aired. When ABP was last shown in Local syndication on WPSG UPN 57 in Philadelphia form 1998 to 2000 Archie Alone aired in 2 parts. I should know I taped it off UPN 57 (WPSG). I think you may have read Something like "Archie Alone is not shown in Syndication (Meaning with All in the Family) and is not airing" The only reason it is not airing is because it is a “Archie Bunker’s Place” episode and is part of “Archie Bunker’s Place” Syndication package and Archie Bunker’s Place was not being shown at that time that was written. It was very misleading. What that should have said is that Archie Alone has never aired with “All in the Family” in Syndication and is syndicated in a separate syndication package with Archie Bunker’s Place. Though the episode is sad I did not have any trouble watching it it is both well acted and well written. When I asked ABP writer Fred Rubin for the Q&A on my web site which episode in his 3 years with Arche Bunker's Place he was most proud of "Archie Alone" was his answer. Death is Part off life. It is a great episode and you would be doing your selves a great disservice by not watching it. Archie Bunker's Place Homepage (http://hometown.aol.com/archiesplacetv/myhomepage/tv.html) sm95fan 05-25-2022, 05:52 PM I thought this was a good, emotional episode. However by that point, Edith hadn't been on the show in almost a year so in a way she was already dead. It didn't have the same punch as if Dingbat was coming off of recent appearances and her presence still felt fresh. |
