I know it was discussed once, what denomination of church Mama attended.... I was watching the Mama's Boyfriend episode on DVD and at the beginning Fran mentioned she couldn't sing in the church choir at the Methodist church because she have a cold..... I don't recall that line being in the episode when it was on TV, I noticed Fran's voice was horse in that episode but I don't remember there being an explanation why.
So I wonder if the Harpers are Methodist?

I guess so…but I kinda thought they were Baptist.

I know they referred to their minister as a Reverend and he wore a collar, I think that's maybe more Methodist.... I used to go to a Baptist church and they never did that
On the other hand, perhaps just Fran was Methodist and Mama was something else.... It was kinda odd that Fran mentioned the specific name of the Church if they all went to the same one.
It's funny because I never thought anything about church was ever mentioned in the NBC episodes.... Mama really didn't seem religious at all in the NBC years

There are a few episodes where Mama is seen making the sign of the cross. So she might be Catholic or Lutheran. I would lean toward Lutheran because Rev. Meechum performs the marriage ceremony for Vint and Naomi inside Mama's house instead of inside a church as required by the Catholic faith. And Rev. Meechum is married, which is not allowed for Catholic ministers.

Yes, the CLL - Church Ladies League - was something from the syndicated years.
Catholic is ruled out because of Alberta, Rev. Meechum's nasty wife.
Those quiet, dignified church ladies sure whooped it up after a few belts of Thelma's cold cure!
