was going to be a new teacher in the fall.
I remember that our teachers/classrooms were posted by late summer on the window of the classrooms so we knew who we had long before the first day of school.
I could see the class being upset that they were not aware they were losing their favorite teacher.

Mr. Armstead could have gone to the classroom and said, OK, I'll be your teacher.
They would have begged to keep the new guy!

I remember at the close of my 4th grade school year in the spring of 1975, each pupil was told who their 5th grade teacher would be. So all during summer vacation, I knew who to expect.

Yes, I think in my school they posted a mimeograph copy on a bulletin board.

Mmm, the smell of a mimeograph.

Yeah, there's nothing like the smell of a fresh mimeograph sheet.
