They (https://www.reddit.com/r/television/comments/a2lp6i/can_some_one_explain_what_happened_to_comedy/) are literally only playing (https://www.cc.com/tv-schedule) The Office (https://www.reddit.com/r/DunderMifflin/comments/q281kh/me_when_comedy_central_traded_a_lot_of_the_office/) and South Park (https://www.reddit.com/r/self/comments/rbtzmk/why_is_it_only_south_park_like_all_day_on_comedy/) all day (and night) long. Comedy Central (https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Creator/ComedyCentral) used to have (https://officialfan.proboards.com/thread/577516/remember-early-days-comedy-central?page=2) a whole range (https://thedesk.net/2022/10/comedy-central-filled-reruns-paramount-global/) of stuff (https://www.reddit.com/r/television/comments/qlbmai/wtf_happened_with_daniel_toshtosh0/) from stand up shows, skit stuff (https://www.thewrap.com/how-tosh-0-finale-marks-the-end-of-an-era-at-comedy-central/), cartoons (https://www.reddit.com/r/television/comments/iwn4uj/is_comedy_central_going_downhill/), etc. What (https://www.reddit.com/r/television/comments/102plrz/what_the_heck_happened_to_comedy_central_i/) happened (https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/tv/tv-news/as-trevor-noah-exits-comedy-central-finds-itself-in-crisis-mode-1235233604/)?

Yeah, wtf is with that five hour block of The Office in the evening? Good grief! A two hour block would be more than enough. Can't they find some other programs to air? Maybe there are just too many sitcom networks now.

Just another failed Viacom network. Like Nick at Nite--carbon copy of that type of schedule.

Today I will be discussing the state of Comedy Central's schedule, in addition to Paramount's other channels such as Nickelodeon and MTV. My theory is that Paramount may be intentionally creating bad schedules to push people to subscribe to Paramount Plus. Anyways, Comedy Central has been spamming The Office, Seinfeld, and Parks and Recreation lately and neglecting other fan-favorite series such as South Park, Beavis and Butthead, Daria, Digman, Crank Yankers, and Futurama. Maybe by February or March when South Park season 27 premieres, the schedule MAY get better? Other comedy/adult animation channels like FXX and Adult Swim are ten steps ahead of them.

Sorry for the lack of videos this past week, I got new internet installed as we cancelled Comcast/Xfinity due to the ridiculously and overwhelmingly high cost. I might make a video later on about finally cutting the cord! Not just that, I felt unmotivated and was running out of ideas.

Edit: I forgot to mention this in the video, but why doesn't Comedy Central air any of the South Park Paramount Plus specials like Streaming Wars? Would be nice to see them on television since it released over a year ago, I wonder why they won't air them.

Today, we take a look at perhaps the worst schedule we have seen so far - Comedy Central. Without posting spoilers, it's the most bare bones we've seen. What do you think about it?

Comedy Central Website Shuttered, Decades of ‘Daily Show’ and ‘Colbert Report’ Clips Gone in a Blink (https://tvline.com/news/comedy-central-website-shut-down-paramount-the-daily-show-clips-1235271532/)

And now for your moment of the-opposite-of-zen…

Paramount has effectively shut down (https://www.reddit.com/r/television/comments/1dp9cpj/comedy_central_website_shuttered_decades_of_daily/) its Comedy Central website, TVLine has confirmed. Prior to this week, ComedyCentral.com had been home to a repository of clips that included video from every episode of The Daily Show since 1999 and all of The Colbert Report.

Also included in the purge: snippets from and episodes of @midnight, The Nightly Show With Larry Wilmore and The Opposition With Jordan Klepper.

Latenighter.com first reported the site’s gutting. TVLine has reached out to Paramount for comment.

The site’s shutdown follows that of two other Paramount-owned properties: MTV.com (including its in-depth MTV News archives) and CMT.com. While all of the domains remain active, a pop-up notice on each homepage lets readers know that “while most episodes of [insert channel here] series are no longer available on this website, you can watch [insert channel here] through your TV provider. You can also sign up for Paramount+ to watch many seasons of [insert channel here] shows.”

Much of the content housed on the now-dark sites, however, is not currently available on Paramount+.

Nickelodeon, MTV, Comedy Central, and BET Are Reportedly No Longer a Priority For Paramount (https://www.resetera.com/threads/nickelodeon-mtv-comedy-central-and-bet-are-reportedly-no-longer-a-priority-for-paramount.1069011/)

According to a recent report (https://www.nickalive.net/2024/12/nickelodeon-mtv-comedy-central-and-bet.html?m=1) from The Hollywood Reporter (https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/business/business-news/hbo-bravo-movie-studios-hollywood-wall-street-1236090485/), these networks are "simply not as high a priority" (https://www.reddit.com/r/nickelodeon/comments/1hm670g/nickelodeon_mtv_comedy_central_and_bet_are_no/) for the incoming Skydance regime following the anticipated merger with Paramount (http://www.nickalive.net/2024/08/paramount-board-special-committee.html). This news raises serious questions about the future of these channels, which have played a significant role in shaping pop culture over the past few decades.

The report suggests that CBS is the only television asset considered completely safe under the new leadership. Incoming company president Jeff Shell has previously referred to CBS as a "crown jewel," indicating its central importance to the merged entity. This prioritization of CBS comes at the expense of other networks within the Paramount portfolio.

Per the THR:

Incoming president Jeff Shell told reporters over the summer that he views CBS as a "crown jewel" asset, albeit one where they will "manage it a bit more aggressively for cash flow." And they laid out a vision to make Paramount+ a dominant player in streaming, perhaps via a tie-up with another player.

But the legacy Viacom cable channels like MTV, Comedy Central, Nickelodeon (https://animesuperhero.com/forums/threads/nickelodeon-reportedly-no-longer-a-priority-for-paramount.5800827/) and BET are simply not as high a priority. The company is likely to consolidate its TV networks after the deal is complete, and would consider spinning its cable channels off or selling them, with only CBS off the table completely.

The signs of this shift have been evident for some time. Paramount has reportedly entertained numerous bids for BET, including offers from prominent figures like Tyler Perry and media mogul Byron Allen. This willingness to consider selling BET demonstrates a clear shift in priorities away from these formerly key cable assets.

Perhaps the most alarming indicator of this deprioritization was the recent wiping of digital archives for networks like MTV News and Comedy Central as well as the removal of a raft library Nickelodeon programming from Paramount+. For the former, this erasure of digital history suggests a lack of commitment to preserving the legacy of these channels, further fueling speculation about their future.

The current strategy of bringing established sitcoms like Friends and The Big Bang Theory to MTV (and Nick@Nite) raises further questions. This move suggests a reliance on established, syndicated content rather than investment in original programming, potentially signaling a decline in the network's focus on creating new, cutting-edge content. This is a far cry from MTV's earlier days as a trendsetting music and youth culture channel.

The Hollywood Reporter cites a December 19 Bank of America research report from Jessica Reif Ehrlich, which predicts a trend of media companies divesting their cable TV network assets. The report suggests these assets would be "better positioned as a consolidated, linear-focused vehicle with scale benefits that can drive affiliate and advertising negotiation as well as synergies." This analysis points towards a potential consolidation of remaining cable networks as a way to maintain some level of competitiveness against the streaming giants.

The potential decline of MTV and Comedy Central raises broader questions about the future of cable television as a whole. As streaming continues to gain momentum, traditional cable networks are facing an existential crisis. The convenience and on-demand nature of streaming have proven highly attractive to viewers, leading to widespread cord-cutting.
