During the holiday season of 1998 it was the year of the insect themed movies when Disney/Pixar debuted A Bug's Life in theaters on Thanksgiving 1998 and at the same time before A Bug's Life was even released to theaters Dreamworks joined in the competition with Antz and I often wondered if Antz was trying to be a competitor to A Bug's Life? I cannot even figure out why Antz was even made or how Dreamworks decided to make it in the first place? The way I see it Antz was popular because of the load of celebrity voice talent like Woody Allen as Z and Sharon Stone as Z's crush Princess Bala. But A Bug's Life was virtually the same story except that Filk was an inventor ant and Princess Atta was Flik's crush and i'm not surprised that Dreamworks didn't sue Disney for copying Antz

Why I think Dreamworks decided to create Antz was so that they could have a competitor with Disney/Pixar's A Bug's Life but while A Bug's Life was kid-friendly Antz appealed more to the adult market. But I think the reason why Antz was in high competition with A Bug's Life was both movies had the exact same storyline because like in A Bug's Life there was Flik voiced by Dave Foley who had a crush with Princess Atta and in Antz Z played by Woody Allen had Princess Bala as his crush and I truly think it was Woody Allen who made Antz a smash hit and A Bug's Life had Dave Foley who was only known for Newsradio and Kids In The Hall and I can say that 1998 was a banner year with insect themed animated movies
