Well I was my grandparents house and my papaw looks at me and asks have you been in the tanning bed and I was like yeah I have. He went your gonna die. He was like I'll be dead and you will be battling cancer. He had no right to say that me. My cousin was like Papaw your are so nice. I was like your wife is killing herself also by going downtown and eating greasy and fatty foods for breakfast 7 days a week. She has done that for years. He made me so mad.

My dad said the same things when I went tanning for prom in May. Whatever, thats the only time I did it- and its going to stay that way. I know the consequences, and the tan wasnt even as tan as I had hoped for. Im pale. I burn. Something Ill have to live with I guess.
My dad was all like your gonna get skin cancer like my father (whos alive and healthy I must say!). Then again, this is coming from a man who goes outside allday WITHOUT sunscreen with a tan on his arms and burnt on his legs and face. This is also coming from a man who- when my mother mentioned planting a tree in the house we'll be building up in Maine(sticks)- replied as: "We havent got much time left." lolol! Theyre 52 and 51. lolol.

Your grandpa sounds like a cranky ol' fart. Try not to let it get to you.

Sorry, but I have to disagree. As your elder and as someone who obviously cares about your health, he had every right to say that to you.
Get over yourself and listen to his advice. It isn't healthy, and frankly, there is little excuse to abuse your body in that way these days, since sunless tanners work quite well. Many tanning salons in my area even have this device you can walk into that is like a sunless tanner mist/shower, so you can guarantee even coverage and great results.
That said though, I feel you also had every right to point out to him his wife's unhealthy eating habits. That's what families should do--look out for each other.
I agree with what Bootsy said, and I do understand your resentment at how your grandpa blurted out the news to you. I would have been put off too but only temporarily. Face it, people are generally not so good at giving advice. They tend to take the hardline approach rather than the more civil, reasoned approach. Get past that and just try to understand that he's right and means well and he just doesn't know how to talk to you in more personable way.
