Discussing this issue on a major health forum and I have been using some Cayenne almost daily and especially in my cooking. I like spice...and know I'm supporting my heart.

About 40 yrs ago I read Left for Dead by Dick Quinn and his journey with cayenne and his heart. This book was a mind and eye opener and if anyone wants to read it and support their own heart, it can be found in many places and used too:

I've always preferred the surrounding flavors of the cayenne pepper over jalapeno or habanero

Hard to say....are you buying "fresh" peppers and then processing yourself? I do, and that way avoid the vinegar and other additives that sauce, relish, and condiment manufacturers add in.

Take a standard non-hot banana pepper. eat it, and notice the bouquet of flavors. Good hot peppers should possess the same flavors, most people just tend to miss them due to the heat.

And among peppers in general, I think the bouquet of cayenne peppers is the best.

I am, however, sort of a wimp when it comes to heat. Jalapenos are really too hot for me, so the heat of a cayenne is just about right for my preferences.

Hey GJ, many like hot stuff and many do not. If one person reads this info on heart health and benefits, that is a lot.
