Any of you fly in a small plane? Many years ago, and I must have had temporary insanity, I flew from LA over the Ocean to Catalina with a kinda crush guy in his single engine puddle jumper. Had lunch and walked around and headed back....Never did that again.

Umm, wonder if that guy had a helicopter, would I have gone???? Something tells me yes, as I was pretty adventursome years ago.

Then what comes to mind if the deadly copter with Koby and his daughter and all those in the copter...

Not to sound insensitive, but at 95 no one can legitimately think he got short changed?

No one said he was short changed and that was not my issue. Yes I'm sure he had a very good long life, it was about how he went I am posting about.

My observation was not specifically intended as rebuttal to any point you might have been making.

Whenpeople die in their earlier years, many folks like to lament over how the departed was "cheated".

The ol Mayor sure can't feel slighted.

When my mom passed in her late 70s, I remarked at her funeral that "at least she had a good long life"

Which was just intended as a platitude. An indication that I was "coping" with the loss.

But so many of her same-age group peers seemed determined to take it as an affront. As if I was saying "you're next" or similar.

And you know what I think it was? I suspect they all wanted me to be a snivveling mess, so that they could comfort me. And my determination to be strong somehow made them feel cheated.

But the truth of the matter is, ever since my dad had died when I was 7, I had been asking myself what I would do if Mom died too. So, by the time she did pass when I was 44...I was "well rehearsed" for the part.

Very sad.....

It just occurred to me, perhaps a bucket list wish of Rex Minter's was a ride in a single engine plane. If so, he did it and made his final exit. RIP Mr. Minter, you had a good long life.

Can't agree, he was a passenger, if anyone would be sued it would be the pilot/owner of plane, we don't even know who owned the plane, could have been leased for the ride.

Deep pocket always get's sued.

Juries sympathize with victims, and the wealthy are always "given credit for" being able to make things whole.

One doesn't have to be guilty to lose a civil lawsuit. All the plaintiff's attorney has to do is successfully tap a vein of sympathy. And juries tend to be made up of people having antipathy for the wealthy

My mother in law, who I loved and cared about died in December at the age of 94.

As far as I am concerned, she died well. She (to me, not knowing other information) just died of old age. She was about five foot tall and weighed about 80 pounds. Imagine the old lady Sophia from The Golden Girls as Chinese and twenty years older and you got the picture.

I told some relatives that again, she died well. She lived until she died, as in she wasnt sick, wasnt in the hospital hooked up to tubes and machines, was relatively healthy for her advanced years. She went to sleep in her own bed (which I am happy about since she stayed a lot at our house and didnt want her dying there and her family blaming us) and didnt wake up.

My father's older sister was almost that way. She was healthy until the last week of her life, she got sick, went into hospital and died. She was over 80, maybe closer to 85. My mother on the other hand was 86 when she died and had lots of pain and medicines, and died in a nursing home (which I am resentful of my father for putting her there instead of taking care of her at her home with a nurse). The last night, my mother couldnt speak and was in and out. Again, was sick for several years. She deserved to die like my mother in law and aunt, healthy for their years until the end.

For me, death freaks me out, and I am getting older and see that my life will soon enough be at a close. I look at TV shows and point out who is dead. How death is forever. I will never see them again. Or just myself dying, what is that going to be like? I cant contemplate just not existing, and I think this is a thing with most people which is why people believe in an afterlife, because non existance seems impossible.

I have no children which makes me happy and sad, however, to bring someone into this World who is going to die, after living this difficult life. We humans make life so difficult. Humans kill other humans for such petty reasons. Humans are greedy, some who live in mansions while others sleep on the street. How billionaires screw over their employees who basically give up their lives and freedoms so they can get one more luxury. Then you are dead and none of this matters in the end.

Can you imagine what it might be like if 50,000 years from now, space travelers from another planet come to earth, only to find our ruined civilization....and then discover our graveyards? Can you imagine what kind of depraved lunatics they will conclude we all must have been?

It's uncanny how some go into long stories about people in their lives and their deaths. This is about a former mayor and a plane crash.....

I guess that some of us are just more forward thinking than others?

But, the rhetoric point I had hoped someone might seize, is the whole ritual of caskets and vaults is kinda macabre.

The next gen of human remains disposal, is to covert us to fertilizer, and place our remains where a favored tree might absorb us.
