About five or six years ago, Robert G was on my airplane from Florida to Los Angeles. My brother was a huge Benson fan and he wanted to get an autograph from him. So we both walked up to his seat during the flight, when he didnt look like he was doing anything important. We introduced ourselves and before we could ask him for an autograph, he said that he doesnt sign autographs and that we should leave him alone. I had seen a few different movie stars before this happened and I never went up to them to ask for anything. I only reason I went up to the G-man was to help my brother get the nerve. I know will never go up to a "Benson" type star now. I just wanted to share that with ya'll.

Wow! That really sucks..I always pictured him as being a great, down-to-Earth guy. Maybe he was just having a really bad day??

It sure is tough sometimes for celebrities to always stay friendly to their fans.I have met celebrities who seemed aloof-while I have also met others who are very friendly.

maybe Mr. Gulliame just wasn't in the mood to sign any autographs, or, as the previous poster said, probably because of the result of his heart attack. (sorry if i may have repeated some of the subjects above, but this is just my guess of what happened.)

That's messed up how he dogged ya'll but i believe a lot of celebrities don't like being bothered by their fans but what they have to realize is that if it wasn't for the fans they wouldn't be where they are. Did ya'll see Robert Guilliame in the movies Lean On Me with Morgan Freeman & The Meteor Man with Robert Townsend? The Meteor Man really sucked. I also saw Robert in the movie Death Warrant with Jean Claude Van Damme. What other movies has he been in?

...can treat the folks who made them what they are, like dirt!

Is it SO hard to be cordial, sign your name and bring a smile to the face of a fan?

Yeah, I totally agree. How crappy of him to do that! I mean, even if he was having a "bad day" (oh boo hoo - poor little thing), he could have at least signed a measley autograph for a fan. He's lucky he has any fans at all. It's not like he's some major star and has to maintain the mobs...sorry for going off...but, that totally sucks!

Maybe he was afraid if he signed one, then the whole plane would start asking. He'd be pretty much cornered...it's not like you can leave a plane

The poster said that he had stopped whatever it was that he was doing. It takes 2 seconds to sign a scribble. I don't think G should've been rude to the fans. If he doesn't want to be recognized then he should've adorned himself with a wig or a big ole floppy hat. Or both.........

Whenever I see a star I usually wait to see if I can approach them. Many times I just leave them alone.

True. But if you were him under the light and had to be "On" all the time you'd be pretty ticked off too. Obviously the near fatal heart attack made him change some of his priorities.

I received a nice pictured autograph from him years ago and that made me smile.

Im sure his staff/agency sent out the pictures and not Benson himself. He should be glad anyone recognized his has-been self. You should have threatened to sic that German maid on him. Maybe you looked too much like Clayton Endicott and frightened him? Most likely he is a pompous jerk.

he also sufferd a stroke a few yers ago and i know strokes affect peoples mood and its very hard to sign autogarphs when your body is going through as many chanages as it does when your suffering from a strokes side ec efcets of a stroke as an autograph collector in my spare time i know he was a great signer for many years i usally agree that as long as your out in public you shuld l almost always sign for your fans but in his case maybe we all shuld cut him some slack

I was an extra on the Las Vegas episode and in my opinion the description of Mr G's personality is correct. I was fortunate enough to meet the entire cast including the Smothers Brothers who did a cameo on the episode. Everyone was very friendly and really seemed to enjoy one anothers company except for Mr G. He would come on set, shoot his scene and quickly retreat to some other location. I never once saw him interact in a friendly way with anyone. I got the feeling that he thought he was somehow better than the rest of the crew. I was only involved in that one episode, so I'm not really sure if this was his normal attitude, but this was long before he had any health problems.
btw: if anyone has a copy of this episode I would Love to get my hands on a copy, I lost mine.

Celebrities should be entitled to their privacy. Just as we dont like to be bothered sometimes, they dont like it either. Thats not to justify his attitude. But you have to be understanding to that end.

I think that if I were a celebrity, I would try to be a little more responsive to people. But I may grow tired of it eventually.
