Hollywood legend Dick Van Dyke turns 97 today, December 13
DailyMail.com caught up with the actor this weekend while he ran errands in Malibu
Asked what his secret is to a long and healthy life, he laughed and said: 'Well, I don't know, all my friends are dead so I'm not going to complain!'
'If I'd known I was going to live this long I'd have taken better care of myself!' he added
Dick, who was dressed down in gray sweatpants and a tan shirt, said he has no special plans for his big day

What is sort of amazing is that his oldest son is 71 years old. But my paternal grandmother had three children over 70 when she died, but it is still amazing to be able to have a child and be able to see that child go through all the stages of life.

Concerning "If I knew I was going to live this long, I would have taken better care of myself." He is only half kidding. At least in the 1960's he was a smoker and was open about his drinking issues. I think in general drinking and smoking was very common in his generation, the World War II generation. The show Mand Men is probably a bit exaggerated but not by much, plus this was Hollywood.

There is a YouTube video of Dick Van Dyke discussing alcoholism on Dick Cavett and it is fascinating. I dont agree with DVD on the causes or why people are alcoholic but it is excellent none the less. I know from reading his brother Jerry had problems and his daughter was a drug addict who did porn and died.

Dick Van Dyke appeared on the season 9 premiere of The Masked Singer and proved that at 97, he hasn't slowed down. The Mary Poppins star — who married Arlene Silver, 51, in 2012 — credits a few different reasons he's stayed young at heart.

"Genes, I guess, for one thing," Van Dyke recently told Yahoo! Entertainment. "Having a beautiful young wife half my age to take care of me — that works! My positive attitude, I get that from my wife."

The four-time Emmy winner also stays active. "I wrote a book called Keep Moving: I still go to the gym three days a week and work out," he continued. "And I advise everybody to do that, because that's what ages people — it's just a stiffening up and not exercising their muscles and their lungs. Exercise is the answer."

I'm sorry, being married to someone who is young enough to be your grandchild. DVD's oldest son is twenty years older than his wife. I guess I cant blame him since there arent many available women in the 90's to date.

I saw a recent picture and DVD looks like an old hippie with that beard. DVD has always had a strange relationship with facial hair. from clean shaven to mustache, a beard or two (there is a early 1970's interview with him rocking a beard).
