View Full Version : Apple Pie, Amanda's, The Betty White Show
McGillicuddy 04-11-2009, 05:19 PM Bea, Betty, and Rue all three had short-lived situation comedies after Maude and Mary Tyler Moore, but before the The Golden Girls:
Bea starred in Amanda's; Betty, The Betty White Show; and Rue in Apple Pie, none of which ran a full season. It would be great to see these shows get dvd releases someday!

Jude The Obscure 04-12-2009, 12:26 AM I was shocked when Nick at Nite actually reran the Betty White Show on Sunday evenings many years ago as part of "The Women of Nick at Nite" block.
I was also disappointed to pick up a release called "The Betty White Show" in A dollar store with that 1977 series description--turned out to be episodes of "Life with Elizabeth", Betty's syndicated sitcom from the '50s. Interesting to see as curiosity, but I found that show pretty dull and would rather have the 1977 series. Why they never made the BWS into a MTM spinoff, I don't know..it could have been simply Sue Ann Nivens went to Hollywood and landed the cop show. The character she played was virtually Sue Ann with a new name.

That was the worst theme song in TV history-lol
Jude The Obscure 04-12-2009, 01:01 AM "Phyllis..........Phyllis...........Phyllis.....it sure wasn't you!" :D

LOL. The show wasn't as bad as the theme song though

The show Amanda's, now that was BRUTAL
Jude The Obscure 04-12-2009, 01:17 AM I haven't seen that since its original ABC airing....i remember liking the show because of Bea Arthur, but who knows how I would feel now?
McGillicuddy 04-12-2009, 11:31 AM ^yep, sure was......best thing about that show was the theme song!
I have Jude's back on this, I love the theme song to "Phyllis". Even if Phyllis is somewhat of an obscure sitcom, I think its theme is one of my all time favorites, at least in the top ten.

I would be interested! I have to install outlook express, then I'll email you. Thanks! Oh, and btw, the theme to Phyllis, is awesome!!!!!
OOliver 04-22-2009, 05:24 PM I remember reading back then (when I had time to read all the 'entertainment magazines' when I was a teen) that Betty White was originally wanted by ABC to star in "Blansky's Beauties", but then the part went to Nancy Walker instead (I think it was later called 'The Nancy Walker Show', and NW left "Rhoda" to star in this). The show bombed, and Walker returned to "Rhoda". I wonder if White could have done better with it?
browneyes106 04-30-2009, 12:12 PM A lot of tv actors have shortlived series before they are on successful shows.
80sTrivia 04-30-2009, 04:42 PM I wasn't aware that Bea and Rue were in those shows mentioned!
Me-Hostage 04-30-2009, 05:28 PM I never knew about Amanda's. You have to know celebs., more than likely are in other shows that aren't as popular before they become big stars. I just seen last week a promo for Amanda's and Condo. They both seemed like they would be fun to watch, but I haven't been able to find out any info. on Condo...

Amanda's started 5 years after Maude ended

I saw them both. I liked Condo better than Amanda's. I only saw Amanda's once.
Jude The Obscure 04-30-2009, 06:12 PM Condo was another in a long line of shows that Mclean Stevenson attempted for a second try at sitcom success after leaving M*A*S*H. I remember watching it every week so it must have not been that bad  I watched Mc in every thing except The Mclean Stevenson Show.
Jude The Obscure 04-30-2009, 06:13 PM I noticed no one has talked about Apple Pie much--wasn't this show she advertised for relatives so she would have an instant family?
TVFactFan 04-30-2009, 06:16 PM I noticed no one has talked about Apple Pie much--wasn't this show she advertised for relatives so she would have an instant family?
Probably because it only lasted a week on the air-lol Damm that was short.
TVFactFan 04-30-2009, 06:17 PM I saw them both. I liked Condo better than Amanda's. I only saw Amanda's once.
Bea Arthur was in Condo? Or was it Rue ?
Mr. Television 04-30-2009, 06:40 PM Bea Arthur was in Condo? Or was it Rue ?
Neither was in Condo. Condo came on right before Amanda's during its original primetime run.

Now I've never seen that show. It was gone before I could blink an eye.
CJMD03 09-07-2023, 03:15 AM That was the worst theme song in TV history-lol
