So, on a certain Website, a Poster ran around liking EVERY single post. My alert inbox was filled to the brim due to him liking EVERY single post I made. I asked him politely to stop liking my posts as it was cluttering up my Alerts inbox. He kept doing it. I publicly reported him to the Admins and the Admins asked him why he kept liking EVERY single post of mine. He told the Admins that he liked EVERY post. Admins told me a way to turn off my Alerts for liked posts. Ironically, I had found the way to turn off liked alerts right before the Admins told me. Other Posters ragged and dragged me for publicly reporting the guy for liking my posts. I defended myself by pointing out I politely asked him to stop, he kept going and that's when I reported him

A little while later, there was a new thread from another Poster reporting him for liking EVERY single post. Multiple Posters reported the guy for liking EVERY single post and the Admins agreed that his liking EVERY single post was excessive and permanently turned off his liking posts ability. Lots of Posters were thrilled with the Admin's decision. I was vindicated in the near future and ahead of my time! :D

Do the "likes" show up publicly? Such as if 6 people like a certain post, the 6 likes (and their source) show up for that specific post.

I participate in a forum like that, where there is an established "good ol boy" network, and they use the rating system as a tool to pass judgement on others (usually against n00bs)

For example when I first joined that board, I'd post something and one of the oldtimers would reply with an insult, and then 10 other oldtimers would "like" the insult. Showing solidarity. And you'd see the name of every poster who had liked the insult.

Going back several months and looking at old posts, you could see that it had ALWAYS been that way. It was how they amused themselves.

So one day when I was on the receiving end, I mused that obviously I had strayed a little too close to the monkeys' cage, and had gotten splattered. That really PO'ed a lot of the old timers, evidently the analogy struck a little too close to home.

They stopped giving me the treatment, but they still make snarling remarks about "the monkey cage", I guess as a show of contempt

Gentleman Jim, the liked posts show up with the Poster's name, which is why I and multiple Posters were able to report him by name.
