So a local TV station has (late night) reruns of Benson. I stayed up late about a week ago and while flipping around the channels I came across one of the episodes. And in it was actor Robert Picardo (with slightly more hair than he has now LOL). I didn't catch the whole show, but for some reason a movie was being shot, and they were allowing parts of it to be filmed in the Governor's mansion. And Robert Picardo was playing the arrogant and tyrannical movie director who everybody hated, in fact he gets murdered but I didn't watch to see who it was that killed him. The reason I bring this up is because actor Ethan Phillips was also on Benson, but I didn't see him at all while I was watching the episode. I know he left Benson during the run of the show so maybe this was after his character Pete was written out of the show. I just think it's interesting because Robert Picardo and Ethan Phillips would go on to costar together in Star Trek: Deep Space 9. Ethan Phillips played the Talaxian alien Neelix and Robert Picardo played the Emergency Medical Hologram (EMH) who was always just called "The Doctor" although sometimes Tom Paris called him "Doc". But they were on DS9 together for the whole run of the series.

Yes, I remember that episode. Robert Guillaume's son Kevin was in that episode as well. SPOILER ALERT: It was the photographer that killed him, if I am remembering correctly. It's been a while.

Also didn't Picardo often get cast to play a jerk? I remember him playing Kevin Arnold's gym teacher in "The Wonder Years" as well and he was not nice in that role either.

Yeah, Robert Picardo played the gym teacher on The Wonder Years, that's where I first remember seeing him. And you're right Robert Picardo does seem to play a lot of jerks but that's probably because he's so good at it but I've heard in real life he's a nice guy, LOL.

Another Star Trek connection: Rene Auberjonois (Clayton Endicott) went on to play Odo in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. But the show you are referring to as Deep Space Nine is Voyager.

I don't doubt that, actually. He's just typecast because he has that certain look of someone who can be a hard ass.
