I've watched the season 11 episodes with the courtship and marriage of Chip and Polly. Wow, that girl pushed Chip into marriage. I would have had red flags going off all over the place the way she acted. Of course she turned out to be a good wife, but I don't like the way she railroaded him.

I think in the first episode of season 11, she said to Chip, I just have to be part of this family. Red alert!

On the other hand, when he found out Polly's father had them tailed, the normally laid-back Chip lost his cool and exploded at Tom. That sent him over the edge, and next thing we see is Chip leaving a note for Steve and Barbara, and taking off to get Polly.

I think it's important to note that during the courtship so-to-speak, Polly's mom discovered that she and Chip had opened a joint-ownership bank account. Even though there was very little money involved, a couple generally doesn't do that unless they're pretty serious about each other.

Mostly we're presented with examples of how Polly is leaning toward marriage sooner rather than later, with Chip being fairly ambivalent for lack of a better term -- but the bank account reveals that he had determined Polly was the woman for him, long-term.

Chip: "Then that night she cracked that i was faster than a speeding bullet, so i ripped her in half like a phone book!"

There’s no question Polly pushed Chip into marriage. However, the more she realized how unhappy she was at home and the more he realized how happy she was with him, Chip eventually “dug” the idea.

After this arc, Chip and Polly didn’t make too many more appearances especially in season 12.

Yeah, by season 11 and 12, the original dynamic of the show had drastically changed. Fun to see them grow up, but I still prefer the B&W episodes with Bub.
