There were two things some actors worried would steal their scenes: dogs and children. Benaderet was worry-free.

Bea was a true pro! You gotta love her! I loved her and the character she played in that show. So warm and motherly.

Linda Henning told an interesting story about "the dog" (his actual name was Higgins) and Edgar Buchanan. Higgins was the star of Benji which was released in 1974 several years after the series final episode, Buchanan appeared in the film and he didn't know if the dog would even remember him. When Higgins saw Edgar on the set of Benji he raced over and jumped into his arms which brought tears to Edgar's eyes. An interesting side note, the film was the final roles for both Edgar Buchanan and Frances Bavier.

I guess off camera Buchanan really liked the dog. He certainly treated it poorly on camera.
