The CFP had given the Rose Bowl until the end of the week -- at the latest -- to agree to terms the bowl had thus far been unwilling to accept.

I am a somwhat avid college football fan, and follow the game closely, at least at the Division I level (FBS).

For me, I like the "Final Four" format and it should not be changed. People will vehemently argue with me, but the "Final Four" should consist of four of the five conference champions. What I would do is basically redraw the map and have four conferences of 20-24 teams each.

I am against this new 12 team format. It is just not needed. For one, by the end of the season, it is clear who the top four teams are. Expanding this to 12 teams, a team who is in, might just rest their better players so they dont get hurt if the team has already made the cut. Second, the kids already play 12 games in the regular season. When I was in college in the 1980's it was 11 games, then a Bowl game. With this, the National Champion and the runner up will have to play 15-16 games. That's too much and this is just done out of greed. At least some of the kids are being compensated now (which I like although some would vehemently disagree).

The regular season is the playoff. Tennessee lost to Georgia this year. That was a playoff game. The Michigan/Ohio State game was a playoff game. These two games for example had meaning because the winners will win the coveted spots.

All of this sort of sucks for the established bowls. For example, more than likely Ohio State is going to play there, going to the Rose Bowl used to be the goal of the BIG 10 and the PAC 10 but for at least Ohio State it is a consolation prize (but playing in front of a 100,000 plus people in sunny California isnt too bad). The Sugar Bowl too, more or less LSU （if LSU loses to Georgia）or maybe Tennessee will be in this, again, a consolation prize, instead of the prize for winning the SEC. Some people hate that there are thirty plus bowl games and a team with as low as a 6-6 record (and even lower with despensation from the NCAA) can be in one. I dont see the harm, it gives about half the teams one more game, it is an early practice for next year and can be a spring board for a better season next year.

College football is my favorite sport, and one of the reasons is that each game is very important for any school having National Championship aspirations. So I tend to agree with you regarding keeping the current 4-team playoff scheme. It keeps a playoff-atmosphere in place late in the season, as any loss can be deadly -- whereas going to 12 teams will mean that those regular-season and Conference championship games will now be of negligible importance.
