Two I'd put in this category are Mr. Roboto by Styx and We Didn't Start The Fire by Billy Joel. There doesn't seem to be much middle ground with those two.

You don't have to agree with my choices, but any other songs out there you feel are that way?

Is this another way of saying take it or leave it? Sorry if I'm confused, but my belief is that you either love a song or despise it. To me there is no middle ground unless a song you hate eventually grows on you and vice versa. As for the 2 you mentioned, I love 'Mr. Roboto", but if I never hear "We Didn't Start the Fire" again I won't lose any sleep over it.

No middle ground on Na Na Hey Hey Kiss Him Goodbye. Although I've never come across anyone who was on the "love" side.

I like that song, but I can't say that I love it. Same thing with We Didn't Start The Fire. I could take or leave Mr. Roboto.

I hadn’t given it that much thought. I guess I was looking for songs you’ve found that it feels like most people have either loved or hated, not just liked or didn’t care about.

This is all just ephemeral talk anyways, like you might have in passing with someone in person for a few minutes, and then never think of again. In this case this thread will quickly slide down the board into the abyss of the internet (till someone bumps it up 20 years from now)

That seems like a good choice. I think it works in a group setting like a sporting event, but home alone someone is either dancing around the room, or sticking their head in the oven.

Yeah, even though I love Styx I really don't like Mr Roboto.

I don't have strong feelings on We Didn't Start the Fire except for when I see Billy Joel live. He only plays guitar on two songs: Fire and A Matter of Trust. I love A Matter of Trust so when he comes out front with a guitar and plays Fire I get mighty pissed off.

For most people, I would say that Chirpy Chirpy Cheep Cheep is either a like it or hate it song. For me personally, I don't like it or hate it, it's just OK, it's not a favorite of mine by any means but the melody is fairly catchy so I can tolerate listening to it.

I love that one, but only the Mac & Katie Kissoon version.

Yes that's the version I'm also most accustomed to. I have the 45 RPM record on ABC records.

Ooh, i like that one! It was lost to me but many years ago I heard it dredged up on Dick Bartley's Saturday radio show. The only one I know is the Mac and Katie Kissoon version.

Talk about a one-hit wonder...

The single was mono but here it is in stereo--it used to very difficult to find--

Could we call this a "love or hate"? (Me - thumbs up!) (can you say lip-sync?) (sometime, I'm gonna have to learn how to bring it over from Youtube)

Chirpy Chirpy Cheep Cheep isn't a big favorite of mine, but having said that, a collection of hit songs from 1971 would be incomplete without it.

Holiday-wise, Feliz Navidad by Jose Felicino always seems to be pretty polarizing.

Here's another one hit wonder from the 70's that I think for most people would be a like it or hate it song, Back When My Hair Was Short by Gunhill Road.

I don't really like or hate the song, I can listen to it although the singing tends to annoy me.

Back When My Hair Was Short barely made the top 40 on the Billboard chart, peaking at the #40 spot. In Chicago on the WCFL survey it peaked at #13.
