I enjoyed all of her roles on LITB, brief as they were. An excellent character actress with great comic timing (and with the recognizable voice of Wilma Flintstone). An attractive lady, too. Unless I am mistaken, Jean was actually four different characters in a total of five episodes. She was Penny Woods' mother in two episodes, a busybody who confronts June in "Beaver in Kenneth," the snobby Mrs. Hanson in "Wally and Alma," and an anonymous woman leading the women's club meeting in "June's Birthday."
I wonder if Jean Vander Pyl holds a record for number of episodes for a guest actor on LITB?

Others who appeared more than once in different roles are Jess Kirkpatrick, Marjorie Reynolds, Bartlett Robinson, Edgar Buchanan, John Hoyt, Wendell Holmes, Claudia Bryar, Pamela Baird, Veronica Cartwright, Lurene Tuttle, Frank Wilcox, Bill Baldwin, Eddie Marr (probably), Patty Turner, Lenore Kingston (probably), Chrystine/Chrystie Jordan.
There are probably a few others I couldn't think of.

Of those multiple roles, the only one I'm sure of with three is Jess Kirkpatrick. My guess is Claudia Bryar, also. (I'll look her up) (yes, 4)
Edit: also checked Kirkpatrick - 5 or 6 appearances - one appearance was an unnamed garbage collector, one as a named garbage collector, Mr. Fletcher
Edit: John Hoyt had 3. Edit: So did Lenore Kingston

I think Pearl Slaghoople is Wilma's mother. JVP may have voiced that part after Verna Felton died or retired.

JVP (and the rest of The Flintstones cast) also did a lot of one-time characters (sometimes uncredited) almost every episode. Sometimes multiple one-time characters on an episode. Would of been funny if Beaver told Penny "Your mom sounds like Wilma Flintstone". Oops! Too big a laugh?

That would have been a terrific in-joke!

I also just found out that Jean Van Der Pyle was the voice of Margaret Anderson on the radio version of the great Robert Young show, Father Knows Best.
