View Full Version : When did the show originally air?
Tankeryanker 11-23-2022, 06:04 PM I do not remember watching it. I know who the characters are, but do not remember the plots.
Was it after the Brady Bunch? I wonder if I went to bed after the Brady Bunch and missed the Partridge family.
stevea 11-23-2022, 07:08 PM It could be you did. It ran from 1970-1974, and ran four seasons. Bradys started a year earlier. Both shows were part of ABC's Friday night lineup.
Shirley was widowed with 5 kids, the oldest two played by David Cassidy and Susan Dey. Susan has kind of divorced herself from the show, which certainly did no damage to her career.
The premise was that, due to financial woes (living in their large Calif. home), they formed a musical group and toured in a personalized bus. Other than Shirley Jones and David Cassidy, none of the actors were musicians--most instruments and backup singing were studio musicians; this was made clear in small print on the credits. Some of their songs were top 40 hits, and they released a few albums during the show's run. Filling out the cast was Dave Madden, who played their manager. The brat of the show was Danny, played by Danny Bonaduce.
After the first season the youngest male child actor was replaced by another kid.
The show had a jump-the-shark decision to add a singing moppet, "Ricky", in season 4. One problem--he couldn't sing. Eventually the show runners must have noticed, because he disappeared after a few episodes.
The fourth season also showcased the horrors of early 70s kitchen decor.
The Partridges followed the Brady Bunch.
Tankeryanker 11-23-2022, 07:58 PM It's corny, but it's also kind of cute. It's growing on me. David Cassidy sure was tiny.
Susan Dey's feminism causes are funny too.

So the Brady Bunch came on at 7:30 PM?
Wow. I wasn't even six years old when the Partridge family first aired. I bet I had an 8:00 or 8:30 bedtime as a 5-year-old.

He just showed up as the new next-door neighbor. He has the most annoying voice. His sister played a space cadet in Emergency.
His mom reminds me of the mom of married with children.
Gross.

I don't remember Nanny and the Professor (I knew the characters but not the plots) either so I probably was in bed.
Was Nanny and the Professor considered a family show like Brady Bunch and Partridge family?

Yes it was another Family sitcom with a 12 year old, 8 year old and 5 year old. It only lasted a season and a half
Tankeryanker 11-24-2022, 05:14 PM I just looked it up. The oldest kid played GW Hain on the Waltons, the second oldest took his life, and the youngest grew into the mess, Kim Fields.
