I guess this goes hand-in-hand with the thread of what people would do if the bank overpaid them.

A man in Germany found a check made out for $4.8 million, payable to candy maker Haribo, that had been lost at a transit station, contacted them, and received a whopping 6 bags of gummi bears as a token of appreciation.

In explanation, Haribo points out that the check was no good to him, since he was not the payee.

"Take this" good samaritans! :mooner:

Well, it's not like he could have kept the millions for himself. Like Hairibo said, he was not the payee. Honestly, I don't think Hairibo did anything so bad.
What did the guy expect? A million dollars? For what? It's not like he was returning actual cash. It was a check that could have been "stop payment" for all he knew.

It's not so much a matter that they did anything "wrong", per se. I just think that as a "deep pocket", what they did "right" was pretty miserly.

6 bags of candy didn't cost them the postage they spent sending it to him.

They didn't have to give him anything at all.

The finder likely would have done better returning the check to the maker, saving them the hassle of "past due" payment hassles.

I personally would have expected some kind of MONEY for returning that check to Haribo. I would have been pissed too in that guy's situation.
