She is portrayed to have obsessive compulsive disorder where everything has to be in perfect order based on her standards for her to be comfortable in her own living space. She comes off as ‘too much’ for people who don’t share her same level of being organized and in order. Phoebe herself was honest in saying that it is difficult to live with Monica. In the show, Phoebe mentioned that you could only eat cookies over the sink. Phoebe also was honest in saying that she almost abandoned their friendship because of it.
She is highly competitive. This was balanced out by Ross being almost equally competitive, but Monica is just more evidently into it. The bad part here is that for her to win, others have to lose. Imagine always having to lose simply because one person always has to win. In the show, she and Rachel lost their apartment because of her inconsiderate and irresponsible betting.
She likes to be the center of attention. She was out of her wits when after losing their apartment, she no longer was ‘The Hostess’. She cleaned and prepped Joey and Chandler’s apartment until she’s exhausted and fanned cookie smells across the hall just so the gang can hang out at her place.
She is written to be high maintenance. She’s a control freak, and she would stir and drive decisions all the time. She decides where they eat, she made Chandler say things to prove she’s not high maintenance (meant to be ironic), she took over party planning and left nothing for Phoebe to bring, she was cutthroat to every single detail about Phoebe’s wedding that she had to be fired.
