I don't believe that things such as this would even be tolerated in today's world, but recall that back in the 60's and 70's it was a thing....especially with male teachers.

In my elementary school there was this man 6th grade teacher who was infamous for his employ of "the board of education". I can recall hearing his swats reverberate through the halls, as early as when I reached the 3rd grade. By the time a student had reached the 4th grade, you started praying that you wouldn't end up in his class.

I hit the jackpot. And steered clear of trouble for like 8 months with no problem. Others were not near so lucky, he even swatted girls. And, each subsequent offense brought you additional swats.

I remember one poor kid wailing for mercy as he received swat after swat. He was a "regular", he'd come back into the class room after crying, all red in the face, and snot running out of each nostril. It was completely barbaric.

But, with like only 2 weeks to go before school let out, I got caught with what seemed like trumped up charges, told to go wait out in the hall, and that he would soon follow.

Seemed like an eternity, and I was absolutely mortified. When he finally came along, I assumed the position and he made quick work of me. It was over almost instantly, and I believe he walked back into the class room even before I. I hardly felt it, in fact.

The anticipation was almost worse than the swat itself. I think he was just determined to share the experience with me at least once, before I got away. Cut a notch in his belt with my fat little bottom on it.

I went to a private school in Memphis whose owner was what I considered a sociopath. There is a Facebook group of graduates of that school and I became a "member" and went line by line how insane this woman was and how violent she was. Of course, no one else seems to remember Mrs. Hitler the same way I did and I was the bad person.

If you were called into her office, even for a minor infraction, she was going to beat you. I dont know what I did but the bitch beat the hell out of me on my butt and legs with her holding my arm and me trying to get away from her blows. Not only that, she would know your birthday and wanted to give you a "birthday swat" which hurt all the same. Some of the other teachers also had corporal punishment priviledges and one would use a ping pong paddle to slap the inside of one's hand. Just awful. I knew the lady died and knew what cemerary she was in and I was going to urinate on her grave, but even with help of the curator of the boneyard, couldnt find her. Found her husband, but he wasnt a bad man and had to live and sleep with this beast.

I went to High School from 1981-1985 and only got "licks" once, from the head football coach because I guess I wasnt quiet in study hall he was monitoring. The principal of our school was an obese man but with big beefy arms and he employed a large paddle. An aquaintance of mine caught a paddling from him, and although he was a fairly tough kid, supposedly he was crying in pain. The principal (who was a wonderful man and educator who passed away several years ago and want to go to his grave and salute him and lay flowers) had a rule that students were not allowed out in the parking lot during school hours, and the school cop caiught me out there. But I had permission from the school secretary, she ran a small cafe and I had a lot of change in my car. I saw that paddle and saw the principal and told him to relax, call the secretary and like that Lynard Skynard song I was three steps floor to door.

Luckily, none of that woild have been allowed here in Sweden when I went to school.
But I remember one teacher having some violent tendencies anyway.
When she thought I was too slow to go out to recess one day, she put a finger into my back.
And it actually hurt more than you can think.
When I begged her to stop, she squeezed my shoulders so badly that I thought I would get bruises.
And all of this happened when I was in 3rd grade.

The funny thing about my experience with this obsessive disciplinarian, having him for a 6th grade teacher....the following year I attended a completely different Jr High School, which several different elementary schools fed into.

One student from one of those other schools had the same last name (and nose, for that matter) as my board man.

So, I ask if they were related. And sure enough my ex teacher was his dear old dad. I ask if he ever got spanked.....and got the most "knowing" smile that I believe I ever got from another person.

No but remember Dick T Shank back in about Jr high who just about climbed over the desks to get to some of the unruly boys.

Many teachers I had prior to high school, kept a paddle with their Frat insignia on it, hanging somewhere in their class room, as in implied threat. Some would even brandish it on the first day of class, with the acknowledgement that they had never had to use it.....yet. Just as a subtle message.

Had one health and safety teacher who would walk over to his coat rack and reach for the paddle, just as a way to quiet a noisy classroom...he was actually pretty funny about it.

But, in the 8th and 9th grade we had this 300 lb assistant principle who liked to walk around the lunch room and apply the Vulcan neck pinch to anyone he felt was out of control. I can't see any school official getting away with that these days, either

I was paddled by the principle once and she paddled soft, didn't hurt at all. I guess feared a lawsuit

It's amazing what we remember from being 5 or 6 years old. I remember beig the only one to drop a rabbit that was being passed around in kindergarten.

I didn't get paddled but my husband told me that he got swatted for calling the Principal "Daddio". (This was the 50's):lol:

One of my kindergarten classmates claimed there were bats in his house's attic, and I told him he was a liar. IIRC the argument sent me to the naughty chair.

There was a big security cop at my elementary school who waved around a paddle in the lunchroom, but I never saw him use it. It had lots of holes drilled in it, supposedly for paddling impact speed from lack of air resistance.
