I'm not sure how well known this is, but when they were casting the role of holodeck lounge singer Vic Fontaine, the producers of Star Trek: Deep Space 9 originally wanted singer Frank Sinatra, Jr. to play the part, but he turned it down. Not because he wanted more money than they were offering, not because he hated science fiction, but because Vic was human and Frank Sinatra, Jr. would've liked to be on the series but only if he could play an alien, LOL (which of course never happened). What do you think, do you think Sinatra would've been good in the role? I'm not sure, I mean obviously he could do the singing with no problem (he reminded me so much of his father in looks and voice) but I never saw him act in anything, did anybody else? I remember when I was growing up seeing him singing on some things over the years, if I remember stuff like a few awards shows and also singing on the annual Muscular Dystrophy Labor Day telethon a couple times. I guess he could've pulled off the role but I don't think I would've liked him as much as James Darren. I like that Darren played Vic Fontaine with some "street smarts" but he was still likable. I don't know that Frank Sinatra, Jr. could've played the character with the same likability and warmth, so I think it turned out for the best. But of course we'll never know how Sinatra would've done in the role but it probably would've been interesting seeing him do that.
