In department stores while Sears JCPenney Mervyn's and Macy's reigned supreme one store that was a huge success and had many locations everywhere in almost every city is Montgomery Ward also known by many people by the cute nickname Monkey Ward. During the 80's and 90's Montgomery Ward was the store to shop and as you can see by watching their commercials Montgomery Ward would always have great sales and had "stores" which were really sections of Montgomery Ward itself such as Electric Ave. "not named for the Eddy Grant 80's hit of the same name" that had electronics and computers and even movies and CDs Kids Store which was the children's clothing department which also sold toys during the holiday season Home Ideas which centered on home decor and other items Auto Express which was the automotive section and also did oil changes and tires for your car and Doctronics which dealt with electronics repair. Montgomery Ward also was known for having Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer as their holiday mascot every year and introducing model Carol Brent who was a fictional character created for the store in the 1960's. The commercials in the 90's used The Go-Go's hit We Got The Beat as their jingle and slogan with the words "Montgomery Ward We Won't Be Beat Guaranteed" before adopting a new image and name change to Ward's for a short time. Montgomery Ward went bankrupt and closed all stores in 2001 but the commercials are fun pieces of nostalgia for fans and now Montgomery Ward is focusing on being a mail order catalog similar to Fingerhut today. Mom and I used to like Montgomery Ward and would buy tons of stuff when we shopped there when I was a little girl
