To support a wife, 6 (eventually 7) kids, and a live in maid. Maybe it’s a good thing he abandoned the dog and cat. Alpo and kitty litter be ‘spensive.

Meh, it might have paid decently back then.

Okay, here’s what METV had to say back in 2016….

10. Mike Brady, 'The Brady Bunch'

With six kids, a stay-at-home wife, a maid and a fairly expensive home, Mr. Brady had a lot on his plate. Luckily, he'd make good money as an architect, at around $87,978 per year.

The equivalent salary in 1969 would be $13,628.

Its a job that has a huge variation in salary. If you work for a big firm its very lucrative. We know he was designing factories, houses, and city dumps. He probably made a good living. Even though Carol was not working, she probably brought over a nice nest egg. They all lived very modestly. The kids did not have their own room, none of them had a car (although Greg had a clunker for a few days), the kids shared a bathroom, and they had modest cars. The only car they could all fit was the station wagon.

But remember they saved money having a house with only 1 bathroom for 9 people.

and soon realized the error of his building the house that way and soon wanted to move. Not a very good planner if you ask me.

I am assuming that Alice had her own bathroom and I think that Mr. and Mrs had one in their room, but still is not enough for 6 kids and one for the hallway.

I know we saw Mike and Carol’s bathroom, but not Alice’s(hopefully she had her own!).

Perhaps Carol’s late husband had a good life insurance policy. Or if you subscribe to the theory that she was divorced, maybe the ex was paying child support.
