Although this was never on UNSOLVED MYSTERIES, this case is huge.

The man's name is Richard Allen.

That's amazing!! I've been watching this story for years. They're going to wait until Monday to do a press conference.

Press conference basically told us nothing.. Other than he was charged with Murder.

Why are the charging documents sealed? That.. Doesn't usually happen unless others are involved and perhaps more arrests are coming.

Par for the course with this case, I guess. For the last 5 years, major details about this case have been withheld from the public, including two more videos from Libby's cell phone.

Now with an arrest, they're still withholding some information. I'd love to put all the pieces together but I guess it will be a while before that can happen. Still incredibly good news that an arrest was made, though.

I'll reserve judgement on that until we have the aforementioned information.

I'd be.. Quite surprised if they don't have a decently solid case against him at this point. but.. I don't care for the secrecy.

Looks like there will be a hearing on Tuesday, Nov. 22nd to discuss whether documents should be unsealed about WHY Allen was arrested.

It is frustrating that even after an arrest, we still know so little.

Agreed.. However.. Understandable if there's still investigation going on as to whether there are, for lack of a better term, co-conspirators.

Sometimes, you just have to be patient.

The probable cause affidavit says Abby and Libby were found dead in the woods less than a quarter mile from the Monon High Bridge. And there was a 40-caliber unspent round found between the victims' bodies, less than 2 feet away from Libby.

Investigators first spoke to Richard Allen back in 2017 and at that time, Allen told investigators he was on the trails by the Monon High Bridge between 1:30 and 3:30 on the day of the murders. The PC did not say why investigators spoke to him back in 2017.

Then last month, on October 13th, investigators interviewed Allen again. According to the PC, Allen again said he was on the Monon High Bridge to 'watch the fish.' He said he parked his car on the side of an old building and was wearing blue jeans and a blue or black Carhartt jacket with a hood. Investigators say that matches the clothes worn by the man who Libby captured in the video on the day of the murder...

Last month, Allen also told investigators he owns firearms. That same day, police executed a search warrant at his Delphi home and recovered jackets, boots, knives and firearms, including a Sig Sauer, Mondel P226, .40 caliber pistol. He told investigators he never allowed anyone to use or borrow that firearm. Investigators sent that gun to the Indiana State police crime lab for analysis and it was determined the unspent round located within two feet of Libby's body had been cycled through Richard M. Allen's gun.

Then on October 26th, state police again spoke to Allen and when asked about the unspent bullet, he did not have an explanation of why the bullet was found between the bodies. He again admitted he was on the trail but denied knowing Abby or Libby and denied any involvement in their murders. One day later, Allen was charged with two counts of murder.

Delphi, Indiana Murder Suspect Told his Wife he Killed Two Teen Girls, Unsealed Documents Allege
by Joe Sutton and Lauren Mascarenhas, CNN
June 29, 2023

Richard Allen, the man charged in the 2017 killings of two teenage girls in Delphi, Indiana, confessed to the crime during a phone call with his wife while in custody, a newly unsealed court document alleges.

Allen was arrested in October and faces murder charges in the killings of Abigail Williams, 13, and Liberty German, 14, whose bodies were found a day after they went for a hike along Delphi Historic Trails. He pleaded not guilty.

His arrest followed a five-and-a-half-year nationwide search for a suspect.

Details of the alleged phone call were included in a large number of documents unsealed Wednesday by Judge Frances C. Gull, the special judge who has been assigned to oversee the case.

On April 3, Allen called his wife, Kathy Allen, one document states. “In that phone call, Richard M. Allen admits several times that he killed Abby and Libby,” according to the document.

“Investigators had the phone call transcribed and the transcription confirms that Richard M. Allen admits that he committed the murders of Abigail Williams and Liberty German. He admits several times within the phone call that he committed the offenses as charged. His wife, Kathy Allen, ends the phone call abruptly,” the document went on to say.

Allen’s attorneys previously said their client “has nothing to hide,” and they planned to make “a vigorous legal and factual challenge” to the prosecution’s claims.
