Jenna Ortega is celebrating her 20th birthday. Ortega was born and raised in the Coachella Valley in California. She has been acting since she was about eight.
This fall, Ortega will begin starring as Wednesday Addams on Wednesday. The series, developed from the Charles Addams comic strip, will air on Netflix beginning in November.
Ortega made her acting debut in a guest appearance on the short-lived CBS sitcom Rob. She had bit parts in the 2013 films Iron Man 3 and Insidious: Chapter 2. A year later, she began making recurring appearances on Jane the Virgin as the younger version of Jane Villanueva (played by Gina Rodriguez as an adult).
In 2015, Ortega became a regular on Netflix’s Richie Rich. A year later, she was cast in the lead role of Harley Diaz, for the Disney Channel family comedy Stuck in the Middle. When that ended, she became a regular on the second season of Lifetime’s You.
In 2018, Ortega appeared in her first starring feature film role, in Saving Flora. She has, as teen actresses often do, spent some time as a “scream queen,” in films like The Babysitter: Killer Queen, Studio 666, and earlier this year as Tara Carpenter in Scream. But she’s also done non-horror films, starring in the recent drama The Fallout and receiving several critical accolades.
Ortega is also known for her voice acting resume. She was the voice of Princess Isabel for Disney Channel’s Elena of Avalor. More recently, she was part of the main voice cast of Jurassic World Camp Cretaceous.
Ortega will have a major role in Brian Helgeland’s upcoming crime thriller Finestkind, which wrapped filming earlier this summer. Next year, she will return as Tara Carpenter in the next Scream film. She will also star with Martin Freeman in an upcoming film titled Miller’s Girl.
