While they were separated, Deacon briefly lived with Spence, went out on a few dates and almost slept with a stewardess named Melanie before he learned that Kelly wanted to come back. He also learns later that Kelly had a sexual liaison with their family dentist, Dr. Gotlieb. When Kelly comes back they stay together.
