While The Conners has consistently ignored Jackie's child Andy, this particular Roseanne retcon makes some season 5 storylines hard to swallow.

The Conners isnt very good. I am surprised it has lasted five seasons. The show needed Roseanne but apparently not since it has lasted five seasons (is it the fifth or sixth season now?) I started a post that I think the new series is very depressing and neither daughters really turned out to be anything. Neither has Dan or Jackie for that matter. It's depressing that Dan still pays a mortgage on that small house since the late 1980's for example. Darlene's son shows some promise but so did her, and her sister. The actress who plays Darlene's daughter was on a Showtime series called "Shameless" I liked for years (until the last season or two), and she is a very good actress.

I saw an episode this season and Darlene's son is now experimenting with alcohol (and has gotten really tall!). So it might be another generation of the Conner's wasted to mediocrity. The sister (the actress on Shameless) as far as I know is dating and wanting to marry a moronic loser guy about twenty years older than her. I will say, I loved the father of the loser played by Joe Walsh of the legendary band, The Eagles. Walsh is HILARIOUS, the first really funny character of the show. Who knew a rock star could act, but he isnt the first.

John Goodman is getting older and he must be getting paid a boatload to be in this disaster (and bless him for it), but his talents could be much, much better used elsewhere. He is really a good actor.

Roseanne (whatever her last name is now) must be kicking herself for what she did. I will admit, I have been drunk and posted crap and said stuff I shouldnt have late at night. For me, my penalty is a 30 day ban from Facebook. For her idiocy, it costed her literally millions of dollars. But I dont know if the show would have been that much better with her on it, she was in the first season, and even then it was depressing and not that funny. She was an Uber driver picking up strangers and developed a Oxycotin addiction, which conveniently for the writers, killed the character off.

I dont understand how this train wreck has lasted five years. Need to give Joe Walsh and the actor who plays his son a show! That would be golden.

I still sort of see this show

Show's not great at the moment (season 5 now), but the depressing/sad part was also the core of Roseanne in the 90s.
It's what it makes a 'blue-collar' sitcom, and creates the special connection with its audience.

Just to be clear I loved it through season 4... I am a bit dissatisfied witht the current season but hope it will come back :)
Agree that it is better than later Roseanne!

I barely cracked a smile watching the latest episode. Becky’s daughter is cute as a button but did little to make the episode enjoyable. Dan using THC for an achy shoulder and getting stoned had potential for laughs but just didn’t deliver. I think the last four seasons had a nostalgia factor. It was nice to see familiar faces again. Now, we remember the reason we parted ways so many years ago.

There is a huge difference. Back in the 90s, the characters all had hope. Nowadays, there is zero hope and the show is 100% depressing. Darlene and Becky are both wasted talent. Darlene went to writing school and could have made something of herself but didn't. She's a loser. Becky was an honor roll student and could have made something of herself too but she wasted her life as well and also became a loser. Dan, etc. are losers too. Harris dates loser guys who are twenty years older than her with drug problems, hideous tattoos all over their bodies and children from previous relationships. Nobody is succeeding. Everyone is a failure. In the original series, they weren't losers. Dan and Roseanne were struggling but they were actually making an effort. Darlene and Becky both had promise. They all failed in the end and became wasted talent.
One of my biggest complaints about this show is how they completely erased Andy, Jackie's son. WHY? And where the hell is Jerry, the youngest Conner child?

I see your point, and I actually agree with you.
The only excuse they could have is that nowadays people, expecially younger, have less of a promising future than before 2001 and 2008 happened, and many feels like they don't even have a chance to make it.

It was a common thing reflected also in other revivals. Rory Gilmore in Gilmore Girls was a brighter prospect than both Darlene and Becky, yet also her in the revival failed to keep her promising future and seems to have wasted her life.

I am more or less their age and I -as well as many of my coetaneous- can identify with this thing, to be honest.
