I read some years ago that he was fired from his role as Cockroach, because he refused to get a haircut or something. Hence the reason that he was never mentioned again after season 4's "Dance Mania". Does anyone know if this is actually true?

I think that Bill Cosby fired him because he didn't like a hair product that Carl was using. I believe that Carl confirmed this in an interview.
