GentlemanJim 10-04-2022, 08:24 AM I think the "nightmares" aspect was just a plot device. Although some recipes call for beer to be added. Think melted cheddar cheese with a touch of mustard and a hint of Worstershire sauce, and yer pretty close. If you took 8 oz of melted cheddar, mixed in just enough melted butter (or beer) to make the cheese pourable. Add a tablespoon of mustard and a teaspoon of Worstershire....you'd be pretty darned close And then what I would usually do is make an open face bacon and tomato sandwich on toast, and pour the welsh rarebit over it. stevea 10-04-2022, 09:32 AM I think the "nightmares" aspect was just a plot device. That sounds good. My mother took the WR (Stouffer's, mentioned in another thread) and mixed in chopped up hard boiled eggs, and poured it over toast. 1960'sTVfan 10-04-2022, 09:58 AM I think this is one of the funniest episodes, with Gomer mouthing off to Sgt. Carter as a side effect from eating Welsh Rarebit. GentlemanJim 10-04-2022, 10:32 AM That sounds good. My mother took the WR (Stouffer's, mentioned in another thread) and mixed in chopped up hard boiled eggs, and poured it over toast. Yeah, I used the Stouffer's too...for years. Then once they discontinued it, I tried for a long while to come up with my own recipe......mostly with disappointment. Something was just "missing" Then I found an internet group full of people complaining about Stouffer's dropping the product....and one if the group members was advocating Worstershire sauce as an ingredient. And sure enough....it was just the thing my recipe was missing. It's odd, because there rally isn't enough there to distinctly taste it, it just kinda blends in to the other flavors Will Dockery 05-21-2023, 05:31 AM I think the "nightmares" aspect was just a plot device. Sounds pretty good. I actually saw that episode first run over fifty years ago and still never got around to Googling Welsh Rarebit yet. Great to learn something new every day. |
