View Full Version : Those Aren't Fighting Words, Dear
Dude111 09-20-2022, 04:07 PM Those Aren’t Fighting Words, Dear (https://www.nytimes.com/2009/08/02/style/modern-love-those-arent-fighting-words-dear.html)
LET’S say you have what you believe to be a healthy marriage. You’re still friends and lovers after spending more than half of your lives together. The dreams you set out to achieve in your 20s — gazing into each other’s eyes in candlelit city bistros when you were single and skinny — have for the most part come true. [more]An interesting approach!!
A good read!

Dude111 09-20-2022, 04:34 PM Hmmmm I saw the whole article...
Try disabling scripts Jimmy :)
GentlemanJim 09-20-2022, 05:18 PM It told me that I had used up my free allowance of articles, and to subscribe in order to continue.
Meaning, it has set a cookie on my system, telling the server that I've exceeded my limit.
GentlemanJim 09-20-2022, 05:27 PM Here is what I get, if that's not a pay wall, then what izzit?

Caroline13 09-20-2022, 06:02 PM I have no desire to subscribe to NYT so can't read it. All I can say until one marries and goes thru the marriage life and see where one ends up, you don't know. Did it once and that is all I needed.
GentlemanJim 09-20-2022, 06:16 PM LOL, if I get by the library where I can use a "free" public computer, I'll check it out.
Dude111 09-21-2022, 04:11 PM Clear cookies buddy and you can see it!!

Dude, every time I clear cookies, my computer gets so messed up....so I don't do that often at all.
Dude111 09-22-2022, 05:28 PM I clear them after every session :)
stevea 09-22-2022, 06:09 PM I clear them every night, clearing today's cookies only. This site works really well and I never (or rarely) lose its cookie, but other sites like banks, you have to be careful. It's a pain to lose the bank's cookie.

I have been using CCCleaner for years and do you guys use this Program. Often it s hows that it did it's job with cookies. Today it didn't touch cookies. I don't get all this stuff in the computer world.
I just know when I've had to clear cookies, my computer was messed up and I had to sign in programs etc...right now I use short cuts to get to where I go daily. Like when I sign into Sitcoms, I just type in Sitcoms in the search bar and sitcoms forum comes up.

I use CCleaner on my Windows systems, very good program IMO. But as you say, sometimes it clears a little broader path than we expected. I consider it a "nuclear option".
As far as Dude's NYT story. I'll pass. I even went to the extreme of downloading the super secure Tor browser......first time ever used at the NYT site, and it still messed with me, telling me that my "freebies" are all used up. They might have my IP blacklisted, because a year or so ago I kinda strongarmed their paywall for free views, and they may have copped a 'tude?
Also, got this, which makes me never wanna go back there

Caroline13 09-23-2022, 03:18 PM I only have Windows and still using 7 which is just fine for my life and puter needs....I'm doing less and less on the puter...keeping with the stuff I'm accustomed to.
Dude111 11-20-2025, 10:18 AM I dunno why so many have to pay to look at the article...... Is it the browser your using??
I got right and saw the whole article......
stevea 11-20-2025, 01:22 PM It's not a paywall now, but it wants [requires] you to create a free account to look at the article.
It created an NYT cookie, plus some google cache and cookies, which I've removed.
