I discovered that Debby Boone has released Christian albums throughout the 80's and it makes me think Debby tried to appeal to the Christian music market. I listened to some of Debby Boone's Christian albums and they are wonderful and better than Sandi Patty's or Amy Grant's albums. It doesn't seem long ago that in the 70's Debby Boone became a household name with You Light Up My Life from the movie of the same name and now continues to be a hit in the Christian music market

Debby Boone released several Contemporary Christian Music throughout the 1980s such as 'Surrender' (1983), 'Choose Life' (1985), 'Friends For Life' (1987), and 'Be Thou My Vision' (1989). Oddly, though I saw her perform in 1986 in Seattle, I never thought much of "You Light Up My Life", I only knew her from her CCM output.

So Debby Boone is also aiming at the Christian pop market? I listened to her Be Thou My Vision album and it's wonderful and she also does a wonderful version of Joyful Joyful We Adore Thee that Amy Grant also covers and Debby's version is really nice

I don't think that Debby Boone was a pop artist who decided to co-opt the Christian music market, but at this point as I understand CCM, who knows?
I think that because she was connected as the daughter of a Christian figure who was also a pop music icon, it's not surprising if this was a way to "cash in".
I always thought that so many Christian artists approached it with pure motives, but from what I've been reading and seeing these days, I'm not so sure, and it appears to have begun in the glitz and glamor in the 80's.
