Kyle's hair is inspired by Matt Stone

Before creating the beloved series, Matt Stone and Trey Parker made the 1993 film "Cannibal! The Musical." The film is indeed a musical loosely based on a real-life ill-fated trip in which explorers, led by Alferd Packer, became stranded and resorted to cannibalism among the group. Originally titled "Alferd Packer: The Musical," the film's name was changed for its eventual release in 1996 by the infamous indie studio Troma Entertainment, the studio behind "The Toxic Avenger." (https://www.looper.com/293669/the-untold-truth-of-the-toxic-avenger/) It was changed due to the fact they believed no one outside of Colorado knew who Alferd Packer was, according to the film's official website (http://www.cannibalthemusical.org/about.shtml). Matt Stone produced and starred in the movie, alongside Parker, and his character in the film wears a hat that might look familiar to "South Park" fans.

Underneath the hat, Stone sports a curly, afro-like hairstyle. Kyle's bright red hair, when finally revealed in the episode "How to Eat with Your Butt" of "South Park," is this same hairstyle as a nod to Stone's character from "Cannibal! The Musical." Kyle's hair has only been revealed a couple more times in the show's run, but fans surely remember it. Stone told ESPN (http://www.espn.com/page2/s/questions/mattstone.html) of his hair, "Well, my hair didn't work before and it doesn't work now."
