View Full Version : Anyone here who does not watch current network televison?
Yong Fang 09-09-2022, 07:37 AM Does anyone here not watch any network television (dramas or sitcoms)? I do not. The ONLY network show I watch is Young Sheldon on CBS. That's it.
On HBO from Youtube watch John Oliver and Bill Maher. Most all my viewing comes from Youtube online. Youtube is wonderful.
I looked at what shows were going to be on this Fall and just had absolutely on interest in any of them whatsoever for various reasons. Some I used to watch like Law and Order SVU and The Simpsons which I stopped watching years ago. This also includes the so called "plus" networks like HBO plus, Paramount plus, Disney plus, etc.
Just nothing appeals to me whatsoever. I basically just looked to see when the new season of Sheldon was coming back on. I have noticed when I return home from overseas and try to watch a network show that there seems to be loooong commercial breaks and a 30 minutes show is only 19 minutes.
I notice a lot of people on here talk about channels such as MeTV and what reruns they show and it seems that a lot of people here are middle aged like myself who would rather watch something from the 60's-90's than anything now.
Maybe I am getting older and have aged out of new shows. I have finally aged out of the prime demographics that advertisers advertise to. To me the modern landscape is a large void of nothing. Thankfully there is 70 years of television to fall back on.
stevea 09-09-2022, 08:04 AM I don't either. I have seen Young Sheldon a few times.
Alan Brady's Hair 09-09-2022, 08:30 AM I saw the whole first season of CBS's "Ghosts", but saw it on Paramount Plus after all the episodes had appeared on the network. The second season starts soon, so we'll see if I pick up weekly watching again. The last weekly show I watched was Big Bang.
TSMIV 09-09-2022, 09:20 AM The only ones I watch are Blue Bloods and Young Sheldon. I may give that new one (Fire Country) about California wildfires a try.
Dude111 09-09-2022, 09:46 AM I dont watch anything and havent in several years.......
If it was an analogue picture like it used to be AND THE QUALITY OF PROGRAMMING WAS GOOD AGAIN,I would def watch...
SarahBellum 09-09-2022, 09:48 AM I currently do not watch any network shows. The last network show I watched regularly was The Office, however, I eventually grew tired of it after a few seasons and stopped watching. More recently, I tried watching Mr. Mayor with Ted Danson, but that show fizzled out after a few episodes. What I find disgusting about network shows of the last 20+ years is their reliance on raunchy, vulgar content pertaining to genitalia, sexual innuendo, etc. and is one of the reasons I stopped watching.
Chocolate Moose 09-09-2022, 10:25 AM I watch fewer shows as the years pass by
Merry24 09-09-2022, 10:45 AM Young Sheldon is the only thing I catch currently.
1960'sTVfan 09-09-2022, 11:28 AM With very few exceptions, I don't watch TV shows made from 1980 and forward. I mostly like 1960's TV shows, and some from the 50's and 70's. I have DVD's of most of my favorites so I watch those and seldom watch retro channels like MeTV or Antenna TV.
king of comedy 09-09-2022, 11:51 AM I enjoy Ghosts and Abbott Elementary.
LUNCH 09-09-2022, 12:32 PM Not only current, I do not watch any TV made in the 21st century. I also do not watch or listen to any made in the 21st century movies or music. I only watch and listen to the good stuff, the old stuff. Most of it made before the 1990s.

I gotta say, I occasionally eat lunch in a Subway that plays a radio station with current hits. I don't know any of them, and they are just awful.

I don't know if unlistenable is a word but that is what they are. In addition to being terrible, they are actually agitating to listen to. I think so called music from the past few decades should banned from being played in public places for that reason. It is like listening to a drill.
SarahBellum 09-09-2022, 01:01 PM I agree. Current music is horrendous and has been for quite a while. Are there any good song writers any more? I don't think so. Are there any vocalists with good singing voices? I don't think so. Does anyone play instruments any more? I think all instrumentation is synthesized now. I say it is time for a metamorphosis in the music industry.

It is not ones age in my opinion. It is that made in the 21st century so called entertainment is terrible. That is my opinion and I can only comment for myself.
AMackII 09-09-2022, 02:49 PM Both NBC & CBS are too difficult to watch for me these days except when Sports Coverages is on. As For ABC; The Chase, $100K Pyramid, Celebrity Family Feud & Press Your Luck are the shows I watch it on the Alphabet network mainly.
I mostly only watch current TV (or movies)
If it’s old I’ve either already seen it or already had chosen not to watch it.
Mr. Television 09-09-2022, 03:45 PM The only current show I remotely follow is Chicago PD. Otherwise I am so over current shows. Never thought that would ever happen because I was a network fanatic in my younger years.
merlinjones 09-09-2022, 06:44 PM As far as current scripted shows I only watch Young Sheldon and Superman & Lois on a regular basis. Thank goodness for the classic digital nets.
Reinhold_Weege 09-09-2022, 07:07 PM I only watch the digi-nets these days.
ThisLittlePiggy 09-09-2022, 07:47 PM I watch The Conners, FBI, and The Resident on network television. I watch nearly all older shows and older movies.
Babalu 09-10-2022, 12:36 AM As far as I'm concerned, CBS, NBC and ABC may as well not exist except for the occasional sporting event I am interested in that may happen to fall on one of those networks.
Yong Fang 09-12-2022, 06:09 AM I am 55 (but think and act younger) and I do not really know what is popular really in music. I do know lots of famous people just by looking online but for the most part am unfamilar with their songs. When I go to bars, I listen to it and even enjoy it, but do not know who they are. But I am well passed my life where I much care the lives or follow these people. Michael Jackson I followed because his life was interesting with all of his troubles in his public and personal life.
There is a WHO song with the lyrics "Rock is Dead". This to me is true. Are there any current rock bands currently out there? I know the Foo Fighters and Red Hot Chili Peppers. That's about it. Popular music seems to have evolved on to something else。 Not that this something else isnt awful, it is just different and I have aged out of the fan base of these bands. Now there is a music tour of aged rock performers from the 1980's-1990's. Motley Crue, Poison, Joan Jett, Def Leppard. These performers are in their 60's and their heyday was over thirty years ago. But Pete Townsend and Roger Daltry of THE WHO are also on tour and those guys are in their 70's (as in about 75).
Lastly there is a "classic" rock station in my hometown that literally has not changed their musical format since the Reagan era. Late 1960's to 1980's music. If you could time machine back to 1985 it would be the same songs. Which means their demographic has changed from high schoolers to people in their 50's and 60's. I guess the station does well even though people listen to music via other formats and the people my age listening to that station are now retiring age and not the advertiser's demographic anymore.
jimpickens 09-12-2022, 06:45 AM No network TV sucks
James 09-14-2022, 12:38 PM I don't either!
James28 09-14-2022, 03:46 PM I watch some current American Broadcast TV myself: The Good Doctor, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, Law & Order: Organized Crime, and Bob's Burgers. I haven't watched ANYTHING on CBS regularly after The Big Bang Theory ended, and I also refuse to watch anything on The CW after Legends of Tomorrow ended on a cliffhanger, a victim of the network's mass cancellation last April.
Coffeecup 09-14-2022, 05:53 PM I watch some of the game shows. As for non games shows, Hmm. LeBrea is coming back and I did see the first season and will tune in for the 2nd. Just about all the shows I see are with actors who have passed away. Lately have tuned into FETV and GRIT and like several of their old programs.
Mace Dolex 09-15-2022, 08:42 PM The last show I was watching live was Modern Family, other than that I will tune in for the local news and old standbys like Family Guy and SNL I just wait and stream it on HULU. Most of my viewing hours is watching YouTube via my Roku device.
Caroline13 09-15-2022, 10:13 PM I am early 80' s and watched plenty of tv in my lifetime and while having to spend 4.5 months in hospital/rehabs due to a problem knee infection and having horrible tv and listening to roommates tv going all night while t hey slept, I got so turned off....when I finally got home and found the cable company screwed up my billing and they wanted big bucks from me, I said "no way", come and get your black box and since then, April 2017, no tv, no paying cable a penny and I'm just fine. Have my conservative radio going most of my day.
The only current show I'm still watching is General Hospital. The rest of the time my TV is on PBS Kids as background noise lol. There's not too much on right now that I'm interested in checking out these days so I spend most of my time listening to daytime radio talk shows and music.
KurtfromPitts 09-28-2022, 10:53 AM Have not watched current network TV in more than a decade. Forget the last show I saw.
Crusinforabrusin2.5 10-02-2022, 11:35 AM I usually just miss out on the good shows and end up catching them later (30 Rock, Parks and Recreation, Grey's Anatomy, How I Met Your Mother). I don't care for HBO shows, but otherwise I mostly stick with older stuff if I'm not catching up on shows I missed out on the first time
