Jeff Garlin’s patriarch character, Murray, is being killed off “The Goldbergs” in the show’s upcoming Season 10. The star exited the show in December of 2021 after a string of misconduct allegations arose and an HR investigation into his on-set behavior was conducted.

According to Entertainment Weekly, the 10th season of the popular ABC comedy series — which premieres Sept. 21 — will pick up a few months after Murray’s off-screen death. The Goldbergs have also now welcomed a new member to the family, Erica (Hayley Orrantia) and Geoff’s (Sam Lerner) first child. Now, the family is amidst a swamp of mixed emotions as they get used to a world without Murray but also welcome their first baby. The new season will also see David Hasselhoff as a guest star.

Season 10 will mark the first time Garlin is completely absent from “The Goldbergs” throughout its nine year run on the network. The series was filming the 15th and 16th episodes of its 22-episode Season 9 when Garlin was suddenly off the show due to the allegations. However, the star still appeared through off-camera dialogue pulled from earlier episodes and unused takes, as well as previously shot images. During that time, Garlin was still getting paid for his work on the show.

Garlin had previously addressed the allegations against him in an interview with Vanity Fair, saying, “Well, to be honest with you, there is no story. We have a difference of opinion, Sony and myself.”

He continued: “My opinion is, I have my process about how I’m funny, in terms of the scene and what I have to do. They feel that it makes for a quote ‘unsafe’ workspace. Now, mind you, my silliness making an unsafe workspace — I don’t understand how that is… I am always a kind and thoughtful person. I make mistakes, sure. But my comedy is about easing people’s pain. Why would I ever want to cause pain in anybody for a laugh? That’s bullying. That’s just uncalled for.”

But then days after that interview was published, Garlin left “The Goldbergs,” by mutual agreement.

Honestly, probably the best idea. Yeah, they could have the unseen character aspect where they always talk about him, but he's an established character so would seem out of place.

The real Murray Goldberg (https://thegoldbergs.fandom.com/wiki/Murray_Goldberg) however, didn't pass until 2008 instead of in the 1980s.

I watched this show when it was first on but stopped watching it about three seasons in.

Jeff Garlin was the funniest actor on the show. He is also excellent on Curb Your Enthusiasm. To bad Curb couldnt connect Garlin's character as an actor on this show and then make light of it on Curb and Jeff's wife bitching about how much money they lost (and the bleep hs has been screwing)
