View Full Version : When You Listen to Music...
Jordan 08-10-2002, 12:01 PM When you listen to music, do you pay close attention to the lyrics, or is it more of just the music, period? In other words, do you listen to music based on the lyrics (as well as the music)?
I definitely do. If I can't identify with the song or get a good feeling of what the song is about, I prolly won't like it. I don't know, why I'm asking this question -- just curious, I guess! :happyface :happyface :happyface
Mijada 08-10-2002, 12:18 PM Well the music is what grabs my attention first then I listen to the lyrics. A song can have really good lyrics but if I don't like the way the music sounds I don't listen to it.
Mr. Shy Guy 08-10-2002, 12:45 PM I guess for me it's half and half. Sometimes the music is what I like and sometimes the lyrics.
Kay Scarpetta 08-10-2002, 12:59 PM Usually the lyrics. Lyrics have an important meaning... well to me they do. I dunno. I'm weird.
Montana Ponine 08-10-2002, 01:12 PM For me, it's usually the lyrics. I have to memorize a song if I find that I like it. I just have to or I won't be able to sing it, lol. After I've memorized the lyrics, though, I like to go back and listen past the singer to the actual music... I study that and eventually I pretty much memorize that too.
I am too obsessed with music.
Hollow 08-10-2002, 01:14 PM I dunno i just enjoy the song i guess

That's what I do too.
AllIWantIsYourClutch 08-10-2002, 08:10 PM I dunno. I like....kinda listen to 'em. I try to figger out what the song means. Then I just listen to it. It's hard to explain. LoL.
Warm & Fuzzy 08-10-2002, 09:24 PM Just to the music. Sometimes the words, as well, but rarely. :D

Same here. If I like the lyrics, I memorize them, if not, I just space them out.

yah I do, I really think about songs and try to pick apart the meanings, we had a project in history a couple years ago to do that to a song...and ever since then Ive looked at music in a whole different way
Carmen_Epstein 08-10-2002, 11:26 PM I'd say most of the time it's the music. But, they're are some songs with lyrics that I really listen too.
Cats Cradle-Harry Chapin
Take a little Rhythm-Ali Thompson
These are a couple with great lyrics
Rockapella722 08-10-2002, 11:44 PM First it's for the music... then the lyrics.
-*Forever*- 08-11-2002, 03:12 AM Geez, now you got me trying to figure this song out :p
I listen to the music, then the words, then memorize them.
JoPol_wannabe 08-11-2002, 03:44 AM The first thing I listen for is the music I really like to listen to the harmonys in a song then I listen for the lyrics and I try to pick songs with good meanings.
DJM77 08-11-2002, 02:17 PM The music and the lyrics are equally important for me.
Impressions 08-11-2002, 03:05 PM Usually if its a calm song, I listen to the lyrics. But when its loud music, I don't really listen to the lyrics.
