Like last season, CHCH has yet to announce an official fall schedule for the daytime retro lineup so again it will be up to me to try to put all the pieces together as best as I can until something final and definite can be announced. Like I did last year, I will break down the schedule into 2 parts. I will call the first part Stage 1 which officially begins tomorrow since that's when the lineup changes will begin. Stage 2 will be listed once CHCH has announced a premiere date for their new game show "Pictionary" which is scheduled to begin at 1:00 pm with back to back episodes sometime in late Sept. By that time, the lineup that you will see now might look totally different. All I can tell you so far is that the series that are about to end will all be replaced by themselves, going all the way back to the very first episode. For the others, things are about to get a little confusing as you will see as we go along.

STAGE 1

10:00 AM The Dick Van Dyke Show - Season 5

This great series will end on Fri, Sept. 8. If all goes according to plan, CHCH will then go back and show the first episode "The Sick Boy And The Sitter" next Monday the 11th. That's what I expect to happen, but you never know. For proof, see below.

10:30 The Danny Thomas Show - Season 4 - Monday August 22

The first of the restarts. Monday's episode will take the series back to when it changed networks and titles and Danny became a single parent for one season.

11:00 The Beverly Hillbillies - Season 1

After being shoved aside by "Mork and Mindy" from the afternoon lineup, the Clampetts have found a new home as part of a solid morning group.

11:30 My Three Sons - SEASON 1 - Effective Thursday August 31

This one really floors me! The series is currently at Season 8, when Robbie and Katie get married (the wedding episode is tomorrow). But once Sept. arrives, the show goes back to Bub and Mike in black and white. CHCH must figure that since the series ran so long, it would take over a year to show the whole thing so they are cutting it short for now and I don't like it one bit.

12:00 PM The Andy Griffith Show - SEASON 1 - Thursday September 1

In what has to be a record for shortest absence by a retro series, this show had its last episode last Wednesday but then, a scant two weeks later, it will come back and again start over from the beginning with the first episode, "The New Housekeeper".

12:30 The Partridge Family - Thursday September 1 - NEW TIME - Moved from 4:30 pm.

Both Andy Griffith and the Partridges will replace "Bonanza" when that series leaves in less than two weeks. The Partridge Family will pick up where it left off when it was in its old time slot.

1:00 Hawaii 5-0

This show will stay put for now until "Pictionary" arrives. After that, who knows what will happen to this and the other shows in this lineup?

2:00 and 2:30 Designing Women

Back to back episodes beginning Wednesday Sept. 1 until the series ends, which should happen a week later.

3:00 Gilligan's Island

3:30 Mork and Mindy

4:00 Taxi

Returns tomorrow with the first episode "Like Father, Like Daughter".

4:30 Who's The Boss?

Moves up a half-hour on Sept. 1 to create a very scary Tony Danza Hour.

5:00 Cheers - Returns Sept. 1

The boys in the bar are back in their original time slot.

5:30 Happy Days - Season 1

The good old days of "Happy Days" begin again tomorrow.

The schedule is okay right now. There are shows I wouldn't mind remaining on the schedule (My Three Sons, The Dick Van Dyke Show, Hawaii Five-0, Bonanza) but a change would be good, too.

Maybe Hawaii Five-0 will move to 2pm. Would not try to guess the rest. My wish list would include:

WKRP in Cincinnati
The Golden Girls
Empty Nest

I miss Bewitched, but that's about it. My list of what I don't want to see is much longer.

Looks like Cheers will be airing on 3 different stations this fall, CHCH, CMT and DejaView. From nowhere to 3 different stations is odd for that show.

Thanks, Sal.

Looking forward to STAGE 2

I am glad that Cheers and Taxi are back and i don't mind seeing Happy Days start over again. But they need to freshen things up with shows we haven't seen or shows we haven't seen in a long time. still hoping for WKRP, Alice and some others. dont undertstand why they cut some series short and are going back to the beginning. and i hate when they skip episodes. they have done that with Taxi a few times.

That's a little disappointing. I was hoping that shows like "My Three Sons" would have a complete run-thru. I don't think I've seen it since the late '70s. I was also hoping for shows like "Bewitched" to come back (never get tired of that one). It's been quite a while since "Mary Tyler Moore" and "Bob Newhart" were on the schedule.

Their contract with some series seems to only be for a couple of runs.

I like "Happy Days' and "Cheers", but they've both been run thru more than once now, and it takes so long to get to the end of them.

I'd love to see "WKRP" on there, but there could be music licensing issues with that one. Another '60s series that would be cool is "Family Affair". What about "The Ghost and Mrs. Muir" - is that still available?

it would be interesting to know why they make the decisions they do. do they only have a certain amount of seasons from some shows? is Bonanza being cut off too before the shows actual run? some shows they air a lot and some vanish.

Bonanza has a syndication package that skips so many episodes after season 6, and that's what CHCH was airing, but they didn't even air all the episodes in that package. They started back at season one on August 11.

They have been skipping a lot of My Three Sons episodes and now they're not even going to air the show past early season 8.

Hawaii Five-0 they aired all 12 seasons.

Skipping entire seasons seems new on this channel.

I would have liked to have seen all the seasons of My Three Sons and Bonanza.

You will find many My Three Sons episodes on YouTube, going to about midway through the final season (12).

It's very surprising that CHCH would cut the series off in Season 8, as the old syndication package ran from Season 6 all the way into the early Seasson 11. Viewers will miss the birth of the triplets and Steve's and Chip's marriages.

The early seasons of My Three Sons were completely unknown to me. The only thing I vaguely remember about the show is that one of the sons had triplets, and CHCH won't air those episodes! Glad to know that many episodes are available online.

Looks like when Designing Women ends it's run on Wed September 7, that the show replacing DW will be Bonanza. I was happily surprised to see that the TV listings has Bonanza on the schedule again beginning on Thursday September 8, at 2pm. They will pick up where they left off, season 1, episode 16.

Either it's all temporary until there is a new fall schedule, or there is no new fall schedule and CHCH is just going to re-air last year's new shows.

Maybe when Pictionary joins the schedule CHCH will change everything. Or not.

The first time I remember seeing the black and white episodes was over 20 years ago when CTS (now YES TV) showed the series in its entirety from beginning to end and I loved them. I'm sure CHCH will have the later seasons on at some point next year. I was looking forward to seeing my favorite character again. That would be Polly, Chip's future wife. It was Robbie and Katie that had the triplets. They were named Robbie Jr., Steve, and Charley, after the main men in the family, which I found to be a nice touch. If you want to see the series online I have a few links for you to choose from. See which ones you like the best and enjoy!

The names of the triplets! I never even thought about that, but now after seeing Charley is one of the names, it makes me think about Bub. It would have been a nice tribute to William Frawley to name one of the kids after him, but I guess there was no memory of Bub on the show by the time the babies are born.

Thanks for the links. I plan to continue watching the series online, the episodes they are not showing. CHCH has skipped a lot of episodes of MTS (more than any other series they are airing - except for Bonanza) & I have been looking them up, time permitting.

I hope you're right about CHCH airing the rest of the series next year. I have given up guessing, when it comes to this channel.

I just looked at the updated listings and it looks like "Matlock" is taking over the 10am slot beginning on Friday September 9. The last episode of "The Dick Van Dyke Show" airs Thursday September 8.

Thank you Katie Ann for the updates. I have one more to share with you. According to reports, "Pictionary" will make its not-so-long-awaited debut on Mon. Sept. 12. (I had mistakenly written that Monday was the 11th on a previous page.) So that means that either "Bonanza" or "Hawaii 5-0" will have to go since the show will air at 1:00 pm. Unfortunately, it looks like "Matlock" will be staying at 10:00 am, replacing both "Dick Van Dyke" and "Danny Thomas". Neither one is expected to come back for now, which is a real shame because it would have made for an incredible 3 hour morning sitcom block. CHCH really goofed here!

When William Frawley and Tim Considine left, there were a few mentions of them a little later--then they were forgotten by the writers.

In the California years it was as if neither Bub nor Mike ever existed.

Last week, I confirmed that "Pictionary" will begin on CHCH on Monday, Sept. 12 at 1:00 pm with back-to-back episodes. That is now more than a week away so that means that I can now confirm CHCH's fall 2022 lineup even if they're unwilling to do so themselves, as if I care! So here it is in full:

CHCH FALL 2022 Daytime - Stage 2

10:00 am Matlock (returns Mon. Sept. 12) (replaces "The Dick Van Dyke Show" and "The Danny Thomas Show")

"Matlock" is here for a long run so I'll get to sleep in for a while. I hope the two great series that have left will come back at some point next year.

11:00 The Beverly Hillbillies - Season 1

11:30 My Three Sons - Season 1

12:00 pm The Andy Griffith Show - Season 1

12:30 The Partridge Family - Season 3 - NEW TIME!

1:00 and 1:30 Pictionary!

(Pauses to allow readers to begin excessive booing!)

New game show hosted by Chris O'Donnell. If there is a God out there, this will last for a very short time.

2:00 Bonanza - New time!

Moved from 12:00 pm, which means "Hawaii 5-0" is now gone.

3:00 Gilligan's Island - Season 2

3:30 Mork and Mindy - Season 2

4:00 Taxi - Season 1

Replaces "The Partridge Family", which is a huge downgrade!

4:30 Who's The Boss?

5:00 Cheers - Season 1

5:30 Happy Days - Season 2

So this is what we are faced with for the next few months. This is still a good schedule with some great shows but it could have been a lot better. If they could have kept "Danny Thomas" and put another great sitcom on either before or after it, like possibly "Green Acres" before "The Beverly Hillbillies", that would have made for an excellent morning group that would have been followed by "Bonanza" and "Hawaii 5-0" and the rest would have stayed the same. For now, I will give this lineup a barely passing grade and keep my fingers crossed for more changes coming sooner rather than later.

When the only new, never aired on CHCH addition to the daytime lineup is "Pictionary," there is not much to say. I still like many of the shows that are airing, not thrilled about the return of "Matlock" of all shows, but I can only guess that many people like it.

"Cheers" is airing on three different channels this fall - that's really the biggest surprise for the fall.

CHCH TV has finally got around to posting their Fall Media Kit so that means that the daytime schedule I posted last week which I called Stage 2 is now official and final! There is one small detail that I left out which will be great news for "Bonanza" fans hoping for more episodes of the classic series.

This week, the series will change time slots from 12 to 2 pm on weekdays and there will also be additional episodes of "Bonanza" on weekends at 1:00 pm coming later this fall, with the premiere date still unannounced. This should satisfy "Bonanza" fans who would not only want to see more of the show but this should also quiet the complaints from those who feel that CHCH is skipping too many episodes. Now there should be no reason to do so.

So far, this is the only retro series to show up on the weekends. I'm hoping that a few more will follow. That's something I'll keep an eye on for next year and let you know if anything happens. Until then, enjoy the fall and look for another update sometime in mid-Nov. when "Mork and Mindy", "Gilligan's Island" and "The Partridge Family" will end their runs.

"Bonanza" 7 days a week is a shock. Just a while ago it looked like it would be gone from the schedule. I thought maybe "Hawaii Five-0" would move to weekends or late night

A year or two ago CHCH aired "Bewitched" on the weekends for a while. That is probably the show I miss the most, of all the shows that have aired on CHCH.

Thanks for the link to the fall media kit.

CHCH has made an adjustment to the schedule.

Beginning Monday September 12, 2022, "Pictionary" is joining the schedule, but the 2 daily episodes will air at 12pm and 12:30pm, to air at the same time as the US channel that is airing the show.

"The Andy Griffith Show" moves to 1pm and "The Partridge Family"moves to 1:30pm. The rest of the schedule remains the same.

Looks like Cheers is back to its 5:00pm time, with Happy Days at 5:30pm. Remember when these were the only retro shows that CHCH had? When was that, 2014? 2015?

KatieAnn

More changes to the CHCH schedule.

"Bonanza" will start airing weekends at 1pm, beginning Saturday October 1st. That was announced in the media kit, but without a start date.

What was not part of the media kit was the addition of "The Love Boat." Beginning Monday October 3rd, "The Love Boat" joins the weekday schedule at 2pm, and it looks like "Bonanza" leaves the weekday schedule.

My first post on SO in about 4 years.

In 2018, I could no longer access this site and after a while I stopped trying. I have lurked since last fall, but this is my first post.

The reason for this post is that I am so shocked/disappointed about Hawaii 5-0 being abruptly gone. Good thing I only learned about this a couple of weeks ago. It would have ruined my summer if I had known sooner.

Hawaii 5-0 gone for a game show? I don't mind Matlock in other circumstances, but why bring in another hour show?

Partridge Family changing time slots 3 times already? My Three Sons starting up again after just starting Season 8. We should have at least got to see the triplets being born.

The Dick Van Dyke show should have gotten another run instead of Andy Griffith, because Andy Griffith has already had a few runs to Dick Van Dyke's one.

I do understand some shows are a matter of preference. I personally don't like Who's The Boss, but others must like it or it wouldn't have so many runs.

But a game show? The only thing that makes sense to me is that CHCH put it in the time slot they did because they knew viewers would have been tuning in then, at least at the beginning.

Not that I have to ask, please nobody tune in at 12-1. The faster no viewers are watching, the quicker Hawaii 5-0 will be back. I do expect at some point Hawaii 5-0 will be back, but when?

Welcome back Dianne! Nice to have you back again!

For the record, I'm just as confused as you are and also very disappointed. It's hard to keep up with all these sudden and unexpected changes when they happen so quickly and leave you wondering why these changes were made. For example, the morning group - which looked outstanding for more than a year - is now completely ruined, and the early afternoon shows are in a constant state of flux, not knowing when or if you may see them again. All this because of a game show!

By the way, has anyone seen Pictionary yet and how bad is it really? When the first celebrity guest is Steve Urkel, that's not a good sign! I turned it off immediately after seeing him.

I hate to mention this, but there will be more changes coming soon. Both "The Partridge Family" and "Gilligan's Island" are now starting their final seasons this week and I shudder to think what could be coming next after they both leave. At least it will be nice to see "The Love Boat" start up again and I was thinking that it would be fitting if CHCH could add "Love American Style" to follow it on the schedule by early next year. You never know with them. Like they've proven very emphatically this month, stranger things have happened, but not always for the better!

"Pictionary" was scheduled to be on at 1pm, but CHCH is airing it at the same time as the US station, so it's been switched to 12pm. I would love for this show to disappear. I tried watching it once, and it's awful.

I would love to see "Hawaii Five-0" come back. Very disappointing to see it removed from the schedule.

I thought about something else to add.
Both Bewitched and the Jeffersons at one time did have 2 episodes since they were long running series. Why can't My Three Sons do that?

For the first time since this station starting showing all these classic TV shows, with the exception of Happy Days I am taking a break. It works out that for the first time in I don't know for how long, I am now regularly watching Deja Vu because of Family Ties.

It occured to be that both Family Ties and Cheers turn 40 this year, so that is why we are getting a lot of episodes from both shows.

Maybe the person who is making these decisions at CHCH is related to the person at Bell Media who fired Lisa LaFlamme.(sarcasm)

Today, "The Love Boat" takes its maiden voyage on CHCH at 2:00 pm with its first episode "The Captain and the Lady". Next Monday October 10 will be another special occasion as Canada celebrates Thanksgiving Day. CHCH will have an entire day full of Thanksgiving episodes from their retro series although not every show will have one. "Matlock", for example, will have a regular episode shown. These are the special episodes that will be shown on Monday.

11:00 AM Beverly Hillbillies - "The Thanksgiving Spirit"

My favorite episode, where the Clampetts visit Hooterville to spend Thanksgiving with their friends from "Green Acres" and "Petticoat Junction". Stick around to the end to see all 3 casts having dinner together.

11:30 My Three Sons - "Chip's Harvest"

4:30 Who's The Boss? - "Thanksgiving At Mrs. Rossini's"

No thanks! I think I'll pass!

5:00 Cheers - "Ill-Gotten Gaines"

5:30 Happy Days - "The First Thanksgiving"

Later this week, I will come back here to talk about further changes to the lineup that are coming before the end of the month.

UPDATE: This hasn't been confirmed yet so I'll proceed carefully and cross my fingers to see if I'm right, but it looks like another new retro oldie is coming to CHCH TV later this month. On Mon. Oct. 17, "The Partridge Family" will have its last episode "SOS" shown at 1:30 pm. The next day, its new replacement arrives.

Guess what? Lucy's coming back --- in color!!

Tue Oct 18 will have the CHCH debut of "The Lucy Show" at 1:30 pm with the first episode "Lucy Waits Up For Chris". This was Lucille Ball's first series after "I Love Lucy" where she becomes Lucy Carmichael and Vivian Vance is her best friend and roommate Vivian Bagley. Gale Gordon as Mr Mooney arrives in Season 2, the first season shot in color after Season 1 is all in black and white. The series is also known for its various and unique opening sequences. I wonder how many we'll get to see.

8 days later, "Gilligan's Island" will end and another series will take over. I'll tell you what it is later next week.

I couldn't find the info on TV Passport so I went here to see the news:

Passport TV is usually up to date on schedules so it's surprising to see that it's still listing "The Partridge Family." Rogers listed "The Lucy Show" on the schedule since Tuesday, and I guess that's going to be a good addition, if it actually happens.

It's weird that the CHCH had "Bonanza" on the fall media kit schedule 7 days a week and then shortly after media kit comes out, Bonanza is removed from the schedule and "The Love Boat" is suddenly on the schedule.

I guess that "Bonanza" will air weekends unless CHCH airs some sporting event, but the channel doesn't seem that interested in promoting their "retro schedule." It's really the only thing that sets them apart from most of the other channels.

"Bonanza" will be back in 2 weeks after the LIV Golf Tour ends, hopefully sooner than later. By that time, CHCH will have another great series coming back to its weekday lineup. I mentioned last week that "Gilligan's Island" will soon end a full week after "The Partridge Family" does when it will be then replaced by "The Lucy Show". The last episode will air on Wed. Oct. 26 at 3:00 pm. The next day, CHCH will show the original "Gilligan's Island" pilot "Marooned" which first aired on TBS in the late 80s. This is the show with the weird calypso-style theme song and 3 different actors, who were quicky replaced, playing the parts of Ginger, Mary Ann, and the Professor, with one of the girls being named Bunny. The next day will see the return of "The Brady Bunch" with the first episode "The Honeymoon" being shown at 3:00 pm. I think this is a great choice and I am looking forward to watching the Bradys again, but I'm still a little sad that this is happening after the Partridges leave. I would much prefer to have both series on at the same time where I can enjoy them both together but this will be fine for now since I'm also looking forward to seeing "The Lucy Show" begin.

So now, by the time November begins, the mid-afternoon schedule will look like this:

1:00 pm The Andy Griffith Show

1:30 The Lucy Show

2:00 The Love Boat

3:00 The Brady Bunch

3:30 Mork & Mindy

Looks like a great group of shows to me!

In the end, things usually work out the way they are supposed to.

I'm the one that was upset that Hawaii-50 was abruptly taken off the air. When the show was on the earlier time, I had so many distractions that I didn't get to see a significant amount of the show. Now again, something has come up in my life that I wouldn't be able to concentrate on Hawaii-50 like I wanted to.

I wasn't expecting to, but I am watching both the Love Boat and the Lucy Show. I sometimes watch My Three Sons, especially if it's a Mike centred episode. It took almost 2 months for MTS to show Season 1, because of course in the earlier days of TV there were more episodes per year.

Unless you live in Hamilton, there wouldn't be a need to tune in to CHCH if it weren't for these retro shows. Both the Toronto and Ottawa based stations just copy the same shows that are already on the American based stations.
For Bell Media (whom I can't stand because of how they treat people), whether its CTV or TSN, the majority of their lineup is already of an American based station.

On an extremely serious note regarding classic TV, I find it hard to watch any shows when I know an actor on that show commited suicide.

Friday is Remembrance Day across Canada, and, for that one day only, CHCH is making a slight change to the schedule. At 10:30 am, they will have Remembrance Day Mass live from Hamilton along with a special ceremony to honor fallen war heroes from the past. That means "Matlock" will not be seen (Yay!) and "The Beverly Hillbillies" will get moved up one hour and will be on at 10:00 am followed by the ceremony.

Other things I've noticed in the last month or so:

---CHCH is still running promos for "The Partridge Family" even though it ended a couple of weeks ago. I even saw one for "Gilligan's Island" show up recently. That's hard to explain. Someone at the station must be asleep at the switch!

---I've been watching "The Lucy Show" and love how the first season is so much better than the later public domain episodes that always show up online. I do notice one technical problem, however. All of the characters' voices---especially Lucy---sound very high-pitched, almost like I'm seeing an episode of "Alvin and the Chipmunks". I wonder how that could have happened.

---The LIV golf tour is now finally done so all "Bonanza" fans can rest easily. "Bonanza" will remain on the schedule on weekends only at 1:00 pm completely uninterrupted for the rest of the fall.

If any further changes happen, I will fill you in.

I have been watching The Love Boat and it's fun watching all the familiar faces who guested on the show. Old stars from the past and popular names at the time. I am pretty much sick of Mork and Mindy. And they are still skipping the same episodes of Taxi.

This morning Gilligan's Island was being advertised being on at 3pm.

I also enjoy watching the Love Boat for the guest stars.

In that case, you'll be happy to know that "Mork and Mindy" will be ending in a couple of weeks. In its place - no surprise here - it will be replaced by that other great "Happy Days" spinoff "Laverne and Shirley", starting Thursday December 8 at 3:30 pm.

The new CHCH Winter/Spring 2023 Media Kit is now out. On the Daytime Retro schedule page, only one change has been listed and it's a big one. In February 2023, both of Tony Danza's hit series, "Taxi" and "Who's The Boss?" will be ending. In their place will be a new retro series, "Dynasty", the mega-hit nighttime soap from the 1980s starring John Forsythe, Linda Evans, and Joan Collins. All 9 seasons and 220 episodes will be shown starting at 4:00 pm. I won't be watching it but I'm sure some of you will like it so enjoy!

Fear not! That arrangement will only last for one week. The next week, starting Monday January 30, will have the final 3-part episode of "Who's The Boss?" followed by the series that will replace it, which will be "Dynasty", the long-running Aaron Spelling snore-fest starring John Forsythe, Linda Evans, and Joan Collins. Once that starts, you can begin puking again. I think I'll catch "Bachelor Father" online instead.

Like I said, the next 2 weeks will look a little strange once you get to the 4 pm hour. This is how it will work. All other series will remain where they are for now.
