This is not really a new topic but I have been watching the movie on Freddie's life can you hear the laughter.
I can really see why Maria is so upset about this movie they completely neglected that he was so close to his Mom.
and I know Freddie loved woman but i don't believe he was that bad or that obnoxious.
I am glad I got it so i can say i have seen it but i don't think i'll be watching it again,
I couldn't help but think that had Freddie really behaved the way he was portrayed in the movie that Jack would have gotten as close to him or bonded as well with him.
What do you all think about that?

I too noticed how they left so much out like his relationships with his mom & Jack & Mando etc. I suspect they exaggerated or embellished on some stuff. They didn't even show his love for Pie, acting like he was too busy for the baby. I think they basically made an embellished movie for tv that didn't show the real side of him only some of the bad stuff & embellished on that & made it a sad tearjerker. It was such a sad movie. It'll make you cry your eyes out... :( :crying:

I was talking to Laz about this movie a few months ago. He had asked me my opinion of the movie. It seems like the two of us had come to the same conclusion. Freddie was responsible for his own life, as everyone ultimately is, but the lure of Hollywood sure did a number on this immature young actor. (David Brenner was right when he characterized Freddie as being a kid in a toy store and he could have his pick of any and all the toys.) And Hollywood did nothing to help Freddie realize he was taking his fame to excess. :crying: I (and Laz) think this movie was made to cover some Hollywood butt. They wanted to make sure the blame for Freddie's self destruction was entirely Freddie's fault, portraying him in the worst possible light. I am not going to be unrealistic and say that Freddie wasn't a bit self-centered and a womanizer, (I think that the first was due to his artistic nature and the second to his Latin heritage) but the other parts that made up Freddie, his loving generous nature, the way he cared for those who meant so much to him, and his hard working attitude toward his craft, were left out of this movie. :confused: I think this was so Hollywood would not be blamed for what happened to Freddie. When I saw this movie at Mariposa's house (I don't own a copy and refuse to after seeing it :mad: ) I began to realize why Freddie felt betrayed by the system and why he became, first cynical, and finally paraniod about the whole Hollywood scene. It wasn't only the ludes that did that! :angryfire

Luckymama, I agree with you and Laz in your assessment of the movie. I haven't watched it again since the time you refer to--when you were here and we sat getting angry and sad at the same time at the unbalanced (in more ways than one!) portrayal of Freddie!

Speaking of Laz, to me his was probably the most accurate view of what Freddie would have been like under the influence, and of the reasons for his tragedy. I can still see him with a drink in one hand and a bottle of pills in the other, laughing and stumbling as he came onstage. He took some of the "pills" and washed them down, then went on to tell his side of the story, laughing a bit crazily all the while but moving us to tears because we knew the truth of all of it. He also pretended to snort cocaine, which was extremely difficult to watch but brought home what that stuff can do to a person, no question! Then when he was on his knees, literally crying over not being allowed to see Pie--OMG!

I could just see Freddie in the entire performance, but particularly in that moment and the following bit, when he pulled out a gun and pretended to pull the trigger! The shock was almost too much--everyone was holding their breath! But he went on to laugh and say, "I fooled you!" and we all laughed with him, but nervously. Then Laz became serious again and Freddie looked us all right in the eye, as it were, and went on, "The last time I did that, I forgot to put the safety on!" To Laz--unlike the makers of that movie--it was the pressures and the drugs, not Freddie's personality or intentions, that were the reasons for what happened to him. It was clear that Laz understood--this was the reality of Freddie's life and death, and it had to be put out there. Muchisimas gracias, amigo, for being the one to do it, and do it soooo well! You did Freddie the justice that needed to be done!

It is interesting that this topic has come up again just now--my brother-in-law and his wife and kids were here last night and I was showing my sister-in-law the photo album of both our trips to see Laz. As I was telling her in detail about this part of the show, I nearly cried all over again! I wouldn't even have thought to compare that movie to Laz's wonderful acting, though, if this discussion hadn't been started here! Someday I would loooove to see Laz do the movie that sets the record straight!

I agree with you all here about how Freddie was portrayed. I have some recollection of the movie as I remember watching it when it first aired. I remember Freddies drug use and him flipping out because his drugs were flushed down the toilet. I had hoped that there was a better side of Freddie portrayed in that movie. One I had hoped that would have given him a better oppertunity to be remembered as a talented actor and not a drug addict.

One other thing that angered me about the movie or two things I guess is they didn't even acknowledge any of the people Freddie was really close too his Mother for one and Jack I mean they were like Father and son. and Mando just David Brenner and I think he was part of the problem to an extent.
Also was the fact that the movie portrayed Kathy as a victim as ashe was-out for $
The only thing I liked about the movie was the cute baby they found to play Pie.
I won't be watching it again!

I was thinking that maybe the family and friends that Freddie was closest too were not mentioned in the movie because they objected to the way he was being portrayed and because they wouldn;t sell their stories to the gossip rags.
Did Freddie ever really have a stand in on the show like they had in the movie why would they need one? There were no violent stunts i Thought that was weird/

Reading the detailed description of Laz's performance as Freddie makes me wish I had seen it even more. I don't suppose anyone was allowed to video tape it were they?

They were videotaping it the night we went, but I don't think it is available to the public. :( Keep praying that the rest of the cast from the show do well at the Connecticut Comedy Festival in September. If they do, there might be a chance that the show will be picked up by a producer and go on a national tour. Laz will probably be able to rejoin the cast if that happens. That is what we are all hoping and praying for right now. I would love it if the show would come to the DC area so I can bring my hubby and my friends from school. It really is one terrific show, and not just Laz/Freddie. All of the cast does a brilliant job. :clap:

I agree.. A movie showing the sweet Freddie should be made & LAz should play him. :) This movie was just too sad. At the end of it when he died, it had me sobbing my eyes out & breaking out the hankies... :crying:

BTW-- I love the new avatars on here... :)

I saw the movie once and hated it. I just didn`t believe Freddie acted like that. He was a good person, and for some reason Hollywood has to trash them up.
