In the 80's R&B music was known for having great ballads that had lyrics that made sense and you could dance your crush to with a simple downtempo beat but when the 90's debuted it seemed that the R&B ballads of the 90's were not as great as the 80's ballads because they put weird lyrics in them which seemed rare for music at the time and I wondered if this was the start of a new style of R&B ballads for the 90's. Because in the 80's R&B music had the best ballads of all time. Like I can bet you danced with your crush to Chaka Khan's Through The Fire when it was a hit in 1984? Or you had a copy of Debarge's hit single Who's Holding Donna Now in your tape deck? When I listened to music I found some of R&B's greatest ballads of the 80's and some were very nice like The Jets hit You Got It All or Klymaxx's lovely I Miss You but one singer that is probably well known for ballads in the 80's was Babyface and I can't figure out why he never scored with dance songs but sang ballads nicely and Babyface has made himself a huge name as a songwriter and I mean he could be the Kris Kristofferson of R&B music today. But if you look in the 90's ballads there are some good ones like Oleta Adams's Get Here and Toni Braxton's You Mean The World To Me but we do need to return to the simple R&B ballads in music today
