Hannah Waddingham is celebrating her 48th birthday. She grew up in London, and in a theatrical environment–her mother was with the English National Opera for over 25 years.
Waddingham is our second headliner recently (following Juno Temple) from the cast of Apple TV+’s Ted Lasso. She stars as Rebecca Welton. She won last year’s Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series, and is a pending nominee for this year’s Emmys.

Waddingham studied at the Academy of Live and Recorded Arts in London, and made her West End debut in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s The Beautiful Game in 2000. In 2006, she began starring as the Lady in the Lake in the original London production of Spamalot, and received an Olivier Award nomination for Best Actress in a Musical. She went on to make her Broadway debut in the same role.
Waddingham has received two additional Olivier Award nominations, both for Best Actress in a Musical. The first was as Desiree Armfeldt in a revival of A Little Night Music, the second as Lilli Vanessi in a revival of Kiss Me Kate. She also appeared as the Wicked Witch in the musical The Wizard of Oz, and The Witch in a Regent’s Park production of Into the Woods.
Waddingham began appearing in guest roles on British television in the early 2000s. In 2014, she appeared in a regular role on series 6 of the sitcom Benidorm. American audiences may know her for her appearances on Game of Thrones as Septa Unella, or on Syfy’s Krypton as a season 2 regular. She has also been a recurring character on the British sitcom Sex Education.
Waddingham made her first major feature film appearance in 2018 in the British thriller Winter Ridge. She will appear in a supporting role in the upcoming Hocus Pocus 2.
