Which character of Ron Howard do you like the best: Richie Cunningham on "Happy Days" or Opie Taylor on "The Andy Griffith Show"?
Also, what is your favorite "Ron Howard" (Richie/Opie)episode for each show?

I prefer Ronny Howard as Opie Taylor. Maybe it's just me, but when Ronny hit the teenage years he just didn't seem as funny as he did when he was younger. He sure is a wonderful director now though. http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/smile.gif

Lumpy: Did you go out for anything, Dud?

Dudley: Well, I went out for football, but I got my finger stepped on, so my mother made me quit.

Eddie: Well listen-- I went out for basketball and I got my hair pulled, and my mother made ME quit.

Dudley: It's not that I was afraid of getting hurt or anything; it's just that-- well, it's kind o' hard to play the flute with a busted finger.

Dale Midkiff is my man! :)

Well, I think Ron Howard is very talented both in acting and as a director! I thought he did very well in both roles!

Well, I guess I know him better as Opie Taylor, so that's what I say, Opie Taylor! :)

Easy! As Opie but I get the feeling he'll become more recognizable as a helluva director pretty soon!

Maybe not as identifiable as Lucas or Spielberg but close!

I never imagined him as a little boy of the south lol, I liked him on Happy Days much better. He was a cute teenager and I like how he was the prep on the show, but he was a cute little boy on the show too. When he got older ugh let's not even go there!

I liked him best as Opie, however his role on the Andy Griffith show was small by comparison to his role on Happy Days.

But he was pretty good in both roles.

I like Ron much better as Opie. He didn't seem to be the same as we knew him on TAGS. I guess it was just him being older and all.

Well, I was an Andy Giffith Show/Opie Taylor fan LONG before I became a Happy Days fan. (Even though Happy Days in now my #1 fave show) I thought little Opie was adorable, but Richie C. was gorgeous and funny. I can totally see little Opie growing up to become Richie. I mean, they had the same good manners, politeness, charm. Opie definitely would have grown up to be Richie. So, they're a tie to me. In a way, I can see how they are just a continuation of the same person. I have a feeling that this is just because Ronny Howard is probably mostly like that in real life.

Also, someone made a comment about Ron Howard being compared to Spielberg. Believe me, Ron Howard has already left his mark on the world. The man is a genius, pure and simple. How many people can pull off being in two hit shows as a main character, and then storm through Hollywood as a great, award winning director/producer. Think of all those movies he has made. Ron Howard is the best!!!

Yeah, I do have to give Ron credit for being in two hit shows. Most child actors fail miserably trying to recapture the fame, but Ron is just one of the few that made it past that barrier.

Ron Howard was GREAT in Happy Days, and the fact that he left upset so many balances that the show never reached the peak it had reached when he was on the show. What was Fonzie without Richie? And vice versa

But everytime I hear Opie Taylor say "Paw" or my favorite "I don't want ya to go, Aunt Bee. I want ya to stay." or "MEAT!!!" I just start to cry and laugh at the same time. He is so...I'm going to go a bit girly here, cute and adorable, and you just want to pick him up and tickle him so much because then he'll laugh that cute little laugh and he'll smile with such little teeth and he's so cute!!!!

....sorry, got a bit gushy

Oh, it's got to be Opie in "The Spoiled Kid", where Opie tries to throw a tantrum. No matter what he does, it doesn't phase Andy. I think that was the most hilarious scene I've ever seen on TAGS... even beating out Barney's many great lines!

I like Ron Howard better as Richie Cunningham, but I also like him as Opie Taylor.

Although I like both shows just the same, I much prefer hiim as Opie Taylor than as Richie Cunningham. He was such as darling little boy.

Don't get me wrong, he was cute as Richie (cute enough that I would like to have dated him if it was based on looks alone), but Richie's personality didn't shine like Opie's did (in fact, I think that Richie was kind of square and annoying at times)

I tend to say as Opie. I seldom watch Happy Days anymore. I never got into when it was in production. It is hard to believe Ron has children in their 20''s

I liked him in both series.

Favorite Griffith Episodes- the 1st show where he didn't exactly like Aunt Bee. And the episode called Opie and The Rich Kid.

Favorite Happy Days Episode-The one where, Richie had to dress like a girl and danced with Fonz.

I like the YOUNG Opie on T.A.G.S. I say "young" Opie because in the later years of the series as he got older, he seemed to get a little irritating to me, anyway. I liked the older b & w episodes when Opie was younger. Well, that show was so good then anyway. When I was younger and Happy Days was on, that was one of my absolutely fave shows. And Fonzie was my favorite character. I would never miss it. Now, what?, 25, 30 years later, that show just grates on my nerves for some reason. And "Richie" really grates on my nerves when I hear him say "Buck-o!" LOL! That drives me crazy now!!! I think it's funny how you can really love a show as you're growing up but then later on, you don't like it anymore. There are other shows (such as T.A.G.S., for example) that I have watched my entire life and still don't get tired of it. Charlies Angels is another good example. I loved that show when it was on originally but I don't think that I could watch it any longer. It just seems stupid now. But other similar cop shows from that era I still love to death--e.g., Starsky and Hutch, SWAT, Baretta, etc.)
