View Full Version : How would you feel if someone you knew who was gay told you that they liked you?

Just curious because I’m watching an episode of The Golden Girls right now where one of Dorothy’s lesbian friends, Jean, admits to Rose that she likes her, and Rose becomes all nervous.

BTW: I realize that I’m mentioning The Golden Girls in a Chit Chat board but the episode made me bring up this question, so I’m hoping that this thread doesn’t get moved.

I'd feel obligated to give them the same treatment that I've been given by women I was attracted to, who wanted no part of a relationship with me.

"Oh, since it would BE SO UNFAIR TO YOU to maintain and arms-length friendship, I think it would be best if we put as much distance between us as possible."

This happened to me a long time ago.

I forget where I buried him.

And here comes Wawwie

Now Jean knew that Rose was heterosexual so why in the world would she tell Rose that she fell in love with her? What was she hoping to accomplish? All it would do is make Rose uncomfortable which is exactly what happened when Rose pretended to be asleep and snoring when Jean confessed. What was Jean's end game? I think she should have kept it to herself. There was no reason to profess her love to Rose.

Unlike Babalu, I would not physically harm some woman who told me she had a crush on me. If it was a new friendship and she didn't know that I'm heterosexual, then I wouldn't even care. On the other hand, if she definitely knew that I'm heterosexual, I would end the friendship.

I don’t know why Jean even said a word to Rose about it, but if I were Rose and had someone of the same sex tell me they were in love with me, questions WOULD be asked. That’s if they knew about me being straight, now if they didn’t, I’d simply tell them that I was heterosexual, it’s no big deal. That’s a much better way of handling it anyways instead of the typical straight man “Get-Your-Ass-Away-From-Me” paranoia bullsh*t.

I'd be flattered.

Now did Jean tell Rose she liked her or fell in love with her? I hear 2 different accounts here. Big difference.

I believe she said liked instead of in love, sorry Miss Caroline. Anyways, Dorothy didn’t want to tell the girls about Jean being gay because she didn’t know how they would feel about that. But Jean ended up liking Rose (I think she told Dorothy this), and decided to tell her that. At the end they are on good terms anyway.

I suppose,...if it was close to the holidays, I might bait him along long enough to get a few nice gifts, all at arms length of course. Then once he pressed I'd have to let him down easy, perhaps explaining that my girlfriend was phobic.

99.9% of straight men who have an irrational fear of being "hit on" by a gay man would NEVER appeal to a gay man to begin with. You're welcome for this statistic.

LOL, maybe have a nice little game of Donkey Kong at a local pub, and then 25 years later expose what a monster he became after slipping something into my Mountain Dew.

Which is absolute bullsh*t and a tired stereotype. No grown man should be that afraid of a homosexual liking them.

Exactly. I have two male homosexual friends and neither of them would ever "hit on" a guy that they knew was heterosexual.

And so I guess the stories about trannies getting beaten after an outraged suitor discovers unexpected plumbing, are pure fiction?

I wasn't aware this was a thread about the trans community.

To be clear, I was talking about the subset of transvestites who do target hetero men, not the other kind of tranny.. (just one example, as I was trying to maintain forum-friendly verbiage)

But there are other types of gay men attracted to hetero males as well. I believe the term "turning out" is the common expression when one is able to pull a "straight" across the divide?

But even more to the point HuntingtonM15, if Wawwie is going to try and salt the discussion with an assertion that the two gay men she knows somehow establishes precedent. I feel we are entitled to point out where exceptions exist. THAT is where I feel my contribution to be IN CONTEXT. As counterpoint.

Interesting how you seem to “know” so much about this. As a gay male, I can assure you this is not a thing. But what is a thing is alleged “heterosexual” males who married women because society told them to, who are cheating on their wives with other men all the while still claiming to be straight.

A man pretending to be female is not a crime. Physically assaulting that man is a crime.

I've been around the block a few times, and could tell you stories that would be sure to draw TJ's wrath.

But, your "assurance" must not be broadly based. (gotta be so careful how these things are worded, so let's not get into a debate about semantics, I'm being overly general to avoid using terms that some might consider "explicit")

I know of more than one instance where "bagging" a straight was regarded in similar esteem to the conquest of a virgin....and "turning out" was exactly the terminology used.

I agree in concept with what you say.
But, the reason I mentioned the incidents was only as proof that some gay guys DO have aspirations for hetero men.

The ones where beatings resulted are irrefutable proof that the desire is there. I'm not trying to condone the beatings.

That is a homosexual problem, not a heterosexual problem.

Just as liberals raging against the Catholic church for adolescent boy-molesting priests while ignoring that these same priests who molest teenage boys are homosexual.

Wrong again. It IS a heterosexual problem too because the heterosexual wife is being cheated on and lied to by her homosexual/closeted husband.
