This is apparently a pilot episode for the original series.

I don't know if Nina tried to be a singer but I'm sure that song she performed would have done well.

I remember the original Zoom on PBS. The show was by kids for kids and also featured a secret language called Ubbi Dubbi. Even though I never saw the pilot but I might, now that I know that it's on the web. I'm sure it has the familiar closing "That's Zoom Z-Double-O-M! Box 350, Boston Mass 0-2-1-3-4."

Anyone know the name of the music used in the canoe film?

I'm sure it wasn't original to the film.

I wonder why they didn't have any song performances in the later ZOOM?

Also while I don't remember this precisely, I once looked in a 1974 Chicago Tribune paper and at the time WTTW was airing ZOOM and 6:30 PM with The Electric Company at 6 PM.

I would have never thought they would have aired any children's programming at that time.

Perhaps they thought these shows were good for family viewing and I wonder if any other PBS stations were doing this?
