Fans of This Is Us (https://www.cheatsheet.com/entertainment/this-is-us-mandy-moore-major-emmy-snub-final-season-nbc-drama-fans-react.html/) were crying tears — but they weren't from joy — on Tuesday as the 74th annual Emmy Awards (https://variety.com/2022/tv/news/mandy-moore-this-is-us-emmys-snub-1235315069/) nominations were announced (https://ew.com/awards/emmys/this-is-us-only-one-emmy-nomination-final-season/).
The hit NBC drama, which aired its series finale in May, received only one nomination for outstanding original music and lyrics for the song "Day Of The Wedding / Song Title: The Forever Now," which was composed by Siddhartha Khosla and written by Mandy Moore's husband Taylor Goldsmith. (The song was performed by Moore during "The Day of the Wedding" episode, which aired in April.)
However, fans expected the show to receive more recognition, especially since Sterling K. Brown previously won for his role and later launched a campaign for Moore (https://variety.com/2022/tv/news/mandy-moore-this-is-us-emmys-snub-1235315069/), who played his onscreen mom, to receive a nomination for her heartbreaking portrayal of Pearson family matriarch Rebecca in the show's final season.
In addition being a 2019 Emmy nominee, Moore, 38, has also been nominated for a Golden Globe for best supporting actress and won two Screen Actors Guild Awards for outstanding performance by an ensemble in a drama series.
The show received more than 35 Emmy nominations across its six seasons, including four wins — Brown's 2017 win, two guest actor wins for Ron Cephas Jones and another guest actor statuette for Gerald McRaney.
Creator Dan Fogelman (https://people.com/tv/this-is-us-creator-dan-fogelman-on-rebecca-fitting-conclusion-meaningful-train-stops/) also reacted to the news on social media, writing in a tweet (https://mobile.twitter.com/Dan_Fogelman/status/1546894601838923776), "The Emmy noms didn't break for #ThisIsUs today - if you're happy when they go your way, you've got to take it on the chin when they don't. That entire group wins a 'Danny' in my book. And so proud that my college roomie @SiddKhoslaMusic will be repping us with Taylor!"
